Well it's not harmless. I think the point is don't be casual about it unless you know it's bad for you. Continuous skin contact with methanol is not good for you, at all. I don't think anyone is suggesting that the original poster is risking instant death by occasionally pouring a couple of litres of methanol into a funnel, but he should know the facts - right? If you know the risks of something, you can be as casual as you see fit, as all of us who have worked in factories know. But it isn't harmless, as has been suggested.
