VRS oil cap - replacement

Featured Replies

Hey guys i filled up my oil and very stupidly left the oil cap off and lost it. Its only been off for about 3-4 days, and not really driven although i didn't realise till yesterday, as i knew it was leaking oil yet i didn't think to check the engine bay... stupid me.

Anyway i have a replacement from halfords for £5.49, it looks similar to the stock one, yet i was reading on the net that some cars have pressurised engines, and wondering if the vrs has? also is there any complications with not having the oil cap on while driving for 3-4 days? apart from the obvious oil leak and making a mess - i mean mechanical issues?

Many thanks in advance Max.

I dont know the answer, but would thought nip to the dealer and pick one up. I am sure this happens alot and they have them on the shelf. You also have peace of mind just in case you buy one from Halfrauds and then down the line the dealer makes up some nonsense about having the wrong part which has caused engine problems or something along those lines.........

i see your point, but i didnt contact my dealer as i thought they would say that it would invalidate warranty or sumin?

Well get someone to take you there, I wouldn't risk driving it and just say you took it off to top up and you dropped it and it went down a drain or something

BUMP, hoping someone will know if the engine is pressurise?

Ultimately it doesn't matter whether it is pressurised or not. You shouldn't run any engine that isn't sealed because you could be doing untold damage to it's internals. The oil cap s a very large hole, and if you think that anything could get in there when driving along, then think of the damage that this could cause.

I would just go to the dealer and get a new oil cap. You don't have to tell them why you want a new one, it could be a decoration for all they know.

Gary i think you understand me wrong, i am not driving around with no oil cap on... i bought a bog standard (looking) same as the factory oil cap. But my question is, are the factory oil caps 'special' for a pressurised engine, or will my halfords bog standard looking one do?

I apologise for that! I don't think it would make a difference. I would imagine that they will notice the difference when you take it in for a service or whatever, so I would get an official replacement to be honest.
