Zenec NC2010

Featured Replies

I've not long had my Octavia vRS and have really enjoyed the experience so far.

But, as I posted earlier, I'm not at all happy with the sound of my MDF2 sat nav unit. It's really shrill at the top end and save for turning the treble right down, I don't seem to be able to sort it.

And though the navigation element seems adequate, it is nowhere near as user friendly or quick to calculate routes as my portable Garmin unit.

So, this brings me to my main point. I have heard/read about the Zenec NC2010 and it looks really good - on paper. Does anyone have any experience of it in use? Not only that, what are the benefits and pitfalls of it? I believe that you lose the ability to use the CD changer in the boot, though that is not a major issue as I have an iPod.

Finally, is the unit worth £800 or would I be better off trying to source a Columbus unit (quite a few on ebay for £500 ish for a recon unit).

Incidentally, I'm looking to keep the OEM look, so aftermarket kits are not a possibility.

Cheers in advance

Dom

I have the Zenec 2010 in a Mk V Golf. I think it is a very good unit. Sounds better than the RCD 310 fitted to the car and has a lot of features for the money. I paid about a grand for it including installation about two years ago. There have been a few software updates since then and the system is pretty much rock solid these days.

The integration with the Can Bus and Maxi dot is one of the best features and the ease of use is another one. Nowhere near as fiddly as a typical Japanese designed head unit.

It may be worth waiting a wee bit longer before purchasing a Zenec unit as they have a whole new range due out this year with higher resolution LED lit multitouch screens and other enhancements. PM me if you have any specific questions.
