Interference on some burnt CD's playing in Dance unit

Featured Replies

I'm experiencing some interference on some 'copied for the car' cd discs when playing in my 'Dance' radio/cd player. I copied some of my originals in order to preserve them from damage in the car. The original discs play ok but the one's I copied get to track 6 then develop some nasty bursts of clicking and static. It gets worse as the disc continues to play. Having mentioned it to my dealer he tells me it can be a problem with using cheap cd discs, I'm using SONY. However, it could be a fault starting in the head unit itself. My dealer was happy enough to replace the head unit under warranty. This has been done, for which I'm grateful. However, whilst there has been a distinct improvement with some burnt discs playing fine now, some still give me interference.

Anyone else experienced this? If so anyone know why? I guess I ought to make more use of my MP3 player as this performs faultlessly through the Dance unit. I would add that whilst I know lots about engines and gearboxes, cd players are a mystery to me, along with women (don't tell my wife), politics and religion! :giggle:

Woo...just realised this is in the wrong thread. Sorry mods. I'll repost or you can move if it warrants it. Thanks

I think it is a CD writing speed issue and not a CD player's fault. Or to be honest its a combination of two. Obviously your writer's speed was set to maximum via your CD burning software (Nero, ashampoo, Infrarecorder, etc) but DANCE unit is unable to read "data" written in that high speed. I am pretty sure that your computer plays them perfectly.

Please try to re-write one of those "erratic" CDs but set your CD burner's speed at 8x and not at 16x or 24x or 42x or what is your maximum speed. Then test your new copy at your DANCE unit and i think it should be fine.

Politics and religion eh? hahhahahahaaha The two sides of the same coin.

Mine did the same, but ever since, it has been a bit funny with original cd's as well. I'm not really fused as I don't tend to use it much, as I tend to use the aux facility.

My copies play fine for about 30-40 mins then start sticking and missing part of the song out. I have used Maxell discs burnt in MP3 format.

The Fabia CD unit plays MP3 from CD anyway. I just put loads of albums on one CD in separate folders in MP3 format. Its like having a multi CD changer using one disk. Never had any playback issues regardless of write speed. Mind you my burning hardware isnt the fastest.

Yours plays fine because it's newer and your recorder is slower. So for the others, please try to re-write (burn) the same CD again but in a slower CD writer's speed and then try it to your player. I am pretty sure that you will enjoy your favorite music either on mp3 or simple original's copy (cda) format.

If you are facing problem with original CDs then try to clean your unit's head using a head cleaning CD

Thanks stratosg...I re-burned them and at a very slow speed (8X). This time everything works fine! The quality is right up there with the best I've ever heard in any car and definitely better than the original unit that was fitted into my car. I'm a very happy bunny.... Thanks to all you other guys for your comments too.

Noticed this on normal CD's as well I seem to get a bit of interference and then it's fine.

I'm glad you are now happy enjoying your favorite music.

Take a look at the surface of the cd causing the interference. It is probably too dirty either scratched. If scratches are circular then your CD is almost destroyed, since there is no tracks in a CD but one and only spiral track beginning from its centre. If it's dirty try to clean it with a soft cloth. An old T-shirt will make miracles. Always clean your CDs softly and circular. You can also use a CD lens cleaner.
