Pioneer MP3 HU

Featured Replies

I've been looking for a MP3 HU for a quite a while now, & now prices for decent ones are falling into my budget.

The Symphony HU is not that bad really, but I miss having a CD changer with a range of CD's available to play. I was going to add a CD changer at a later date, but the Pioneer DEH 4700MP HU (pic attached) I've just ordered is cheaper & more convienent. The green illumination should fit in nicely with the rest of the Fabia's dash lighting. I've also found an old steering remote control that I had for a previous Pioneer HU, which might or might not work!

The wiring harness is ISO ready, but is it right I have to swap the permanent & ignition lives around?

Also, is it right the facia adapters are available from Skoda dealers for around

Not sure if you saw this thread about a week ago...(sorry not sure how to do a proper link to it)

Anyway, great minds think alike i guess! I just found out mine has now arrived at the shop (i reserved the first one they are getting) and i am having it fitted tommorow after work so can post a mini review soon.

Good choice mate!!

Should have mine fitted tomorrow if the dealer has a facia adapter in stock.

I'm fairly sure you don't need a wiring adapter as the Pioneers are ISO ready (most vehicle wiring harness are ISO), but the two live wires need to be swapped. Anyone confirm this?

I'm sure I'll find out once fitted.

Jon, would you mind editing your post, stating which model it is please. ColinD's playing again and the attached pics don't show up :o

Post edited. :)

Thanks :)

Steering remote should work. Are you talking about the egg-shaped infrared one? I have an old one (CD-SR77) and it works with pretty much all pionner HUs up to about 8 years old :)

You don't need a wiring loom. Just swap the yellow and red power connectors over. The Pioneer wiring loom you'll get supplied with the HU should have bullet connectors in between allowing you to do that.

Yeah, it's a CD-SR77 from about 5 years ago. The new one (CD-SR100) looks exactly the same with updated logo!

I think I'll be need a new battery in it though! :D

Don't be so sure about that - mine still works :D

Haven't used it though.

In fact, I've used it more as a joke. Go up to a mate showing off his new Pioneer head unit and discreetly play around with the remote controls. You'll get him really confused when volume / track number / radio station changes all on its own

The unit arrived today, so spent the lunch time fitting it.

Fairly staright to fit & got the facia adapter from the Skoda dealer for

Forgot to add that the finish is better than expected. It's almost like a smoked chrome effect with a machined finish.

Very nice!!!..........not too bling though!:D

Glad you like it! It is a very nicely finished unit, and straightforward to fit. I find the controls very comprehensive but a little bit fiddly at times. That doesn't matter because I rarely use all the facilities.

Oops. It is a different unit to mine!

Nice one Jon!

I also had my pioneer 4700 fitted today, weird eh :)

I hope you are as happy with it as i am, like you said the finish is amazing...suits the fabia brilliantly!!

When i first turned it on i loved the way it looked, and the sound was :)

Niceee but not quite what i hoped for perhaps.

Then i pressed the loud button and set it to mid...and the sound was :D and everything i hoped for and more, so its a happy ending. I cant believe how much better the standard speakers sound  It makes me wonder what was inside the symphony one.

Anyway i could sing its praises all night.

Here is a picture in the dark so you can see how it fits in with the dash illumination.

The Symphony amp is 4x20W max, where as the Pioneer amp is 4x50W max.

Had a bit of a play with the settings on the way home today, & it sounds awesome!

Oh, & the remote does work, even with the original 5 year old battery! Get in!:D

How easy are these units to fit & what is the "aerial adapter"?

I'm planning to fit myself as i've been quoted silly money. From the pics I see that the yellow & red power wiring needs to be switched?

Any advise would be graetfully received, or is it really obvious.

P.s what tools do I need to remove the original HU?

  • Author

Very easy to fit.

1. Remove original head unit by sliding in removal tools in the slots either side of the unit. Kenwood removal tools work just a treat.

2. Unplug the wiring & aerial from the unit. The aerial adapter converts the original "female" connection into a "male" connection. This just plugs into the car's aerial cable.

3. Slide in the chassis for the new head unit. As mentioned above, this required a bit of force to push in. Push down the tabs on the chassis for a secure fit.

4. Clip in the trim plate at the top of the aperture.

5. Plug in the new head unit's wiring & aerial to the car's wiring.

6. Fit the new head unit in the aperature push home until you hear the clips "clip" in.

7. Switch on & enjoy the music!:D
