HELP NEEDED PLEASE

Featured Replies

OK I have a VRS which i have modified, stage 2 remap, Air induction kit, Racing suspension etc, it's pushing 285 BHP with 330 Torque. Currently I have Kumho's 225 40Z R18 92Y fitted, they are very good in the dry and I have has 15,000 miles out them, so they have done well in that respect. I need to replace the front tyres, shall i get Kumho's again or what would you guys/girls recommend,

Let me know

Guy

I would say that 15k with that power and torque is excellent. I currently have the Kumho's on my bog standard TFSI and i'm approaching 11k miles and around 4.5 - 5mm tread depth. If wear is important you might get more from a set of Michelins, but the trade-off is cost.

Personally I will be replacing my Kumho's with more of the same when the time comes. I think at around £100 a corner they are excellent value.

I have used the Falken FK452 on my TFSI in the past and they were totally worn out (down to 1.6mm) in 9,000 miles, so I won't be using them again.

You will no doubt get a lot of mixed views on here. So I would say if you have found something that you are happy with, why not stick with it ?

I've just replaced my Vredestein Ultrac Sessantas with some more of the same for £99 a corner. Bloody good tyre for that price!

Though I haven't got them fitted on my vRS (I've only had it a month!), I had Goodyear F1 Assymetrics on a previous car and they were excellent. They rode really well, gripped well in the wet and dry, were quiet and were wearing well when I sold the car (about 10,000 miles and a good 5mm tread remaining).

The one complaint was the rolling resistance was slightly high but I believe the new model is better in this, and every other, respect. I shall certainly be getting some of these when I need new boots.

Get the Vreds.

I went for a pair of Continental Sport Contact 3's at the front. Only a Stage 1 map for me but so far very happy with the tyres. I've never tried Kumho's but i'd rate the Conti's above the Michlin Pilot Sports I had previously.

Hmmm looking at the Vreds now, they look quite good

Guy

I had Falken FK452's all round which managed approx' 5k, I now have Hankook EvoII on the front which I have been happy with so far, changed the rears for Kumho's a couple of months ago and I can safely say they will be purchased again, and they were only £75 each fully fitted.

Out of interest, have you had your car on a dyno, 285bhp is a figure expected from stage 2+ and even that is on a good day! And 330 torques is incredible..... B)

Welcome to the forum by the way.

Yup got the print out to prove it, as mentioned i got a Stage 2 Remap, Air Induction Kit, Coilover suspension, Racing disks and Uprated Brakes, Sports Cat, New down Pipe and just fitted a new bespoke exhaust made for the car. It's a beast and i love it. My last car was a Noble so it has a bit of catching up to do.

Thanks,

Guy

Also out of interest if I put new Vreds on the front can i still run my kumho's on the back

Guy

I take it your Dyno wasn't on a Dyno Dynamics RR then?

Post up the graph and our tuners name please :)

I run KU31's, they are ok in the dry and not too bad in the wet.

Agamemnon You can call me Lee.... :giggle:

In an ideal world you should match tyres all round, but as long as the opposites are the same it shouldn't be a problem, in all my years of motoring I have only ran a complete set of the same tyres a handful of times.

I got KU31's on it now, thinking of getting them again, just wanted to see what you guys reckon. All my Mapping and Engine work has been done with Simon @ Auto Torgue/Red Dot Racing in Ponders End. Very good guy, good prices, I got a print out from the rolling road, but not sure how to put it up onto this.

My rears are KU31, good tyre and great value for money.

If you can scan the dyno graph, then either attach it (not sure if that is FREEDOM members only) or use photobucket.

If you can get this to a Dyno Dynamics RR day and it still pulls the figures quoted on your stage 2 map I may well be tempted by Red dot :o . Then again they don't get very good reviews :S

Why on earth would you put new tires on the front always ALWAYS put new tires to the rear move the old rears to the front

+1 on the Vreds - on my second full set of them now, having changed from Conti Sport 2's which were terrible. Got 20k out of the last front Vreds - impressive given the [DD Dyno proven emoticon-0140-rofl.gif] power that's being thrown at them.

Interesting about swapping the rear tyres to the front and putting new ones on the back, I am looking into the Vreds

I have always followed that rule, but tbh I didn't why as it was recommended by a tyre fitter many moons ago!
