About to order... opinions please!

Having taken the wife's Fabia in for its second service today, I got chance to play with a Yeti... and I'm sold!

They only had the 1.2 mid spec to test - although I did try the 110 diesel in an Octavia and found it quite rattly compared to my current diesel. Given that we're 2,000 feet up, up miles of dirt track I'm playing the "we really need a 4x4 card" to justify going for the 1.8TSi, although in reality it'll be a backdoor way of getting something close to a Golf GTI... ;)

What are people's views of these options?

- Leather or Alcantara? Anyone tried the Alcantara option? Is it as jammie dodger proof as the full leather?

- Wood trim - on every pic I've seen, the wood looks a bit odd almost grey in some lights, anyone got this in real life?

- Park assist - I'll admit to only wanting it to have all the buttons occupied... thoughts or comments?

- Amundsen + DAB or Columbus? Is the Columbus worth the extra?

Comments please!

170 diesel not at all rattly. Gobi leather so far has been comfortable and practical - no marks on it at all. Wood trim with the Muscavado/Gobi looks great but does not suit all colours in my opinion. Park Assist is great fun, if a bit of a luxury (depends where you live, really: hardly ever need to parallel park up here , but very useful in France, where we spend a fair bit of time). I like the Columbus a lot, although many on here think it's a waste of money; being a built-in unit, it's not likely to be stolen, the hard disc is great for music storage - but, yes, it's a fairly expensive luxury.

Hi and welcome,

interesting questions and to some extent the options you mention are at odds with each other. Alcantara is only available on the SE spec at some expense, whereas currently due to a shortage of parts Park Assist can only be spec'd on the Elegance and the Amundsen come only on the SE Plus. If your set on a 1.8TSI then I think you should be able to get a good deal on a new Elegance and take delivery fairly quickly as this engine is much more readily available, not being as popular due to running costs.

James down at Allams often mentions he can do very good prices on the 1.8 so he might be worth a call or e-mail.

TP

If you want the Alcantara trim then you have to have SE spec,as its not available on the Elegance (leather only). The Columbus is nice and works well, but as others will point out is expensive for what you get. Park assist is not worth the cash, I only use mine to show it off. However I would recommend the front sensors along with spare wheel and heated screen.

...but unfortunately very expensive! The price difference pays for 2 years / 40,000 miles of petrol... Even if I broke even somewhere around the 100,000 mile mark, there are plenty of diesely problems that could crop up by then scuppering any saving...

Thanks. Must admit I was thinking of the Gobi/wood combination, and parallel parking is a national pastime here!

Thanks. Here the top spec is the Experience trim (non UK) - and the Alcantara is optional at no extra cost - which was a surprise when the dealer told me because it doesn't show that option on the web. The spec also includes Amundsen "+", with the option of added DAB for about 100 euros extra, or 1200 euros for the Columbus (better satnav, but no DAB!).

The dealer reckons 8 weeks for any engine/spec from the factory, and there is 12 to 20% off RRP via a fairly perpetual promotion across the Yeti range.

I've got a 170 Yeti elegance which I find much better than my previous 1.8TSI Octavia. Not at all rattly and just as powerful and very much more economical.

Didn't know you could get Alcantara on Yeti. I have leather on Yeti but I think I preferred the Alcatara I had on my L&K 1.8TSI Octavia.

I have the wood trim option with my Gobi leather trim and it looks good with that option. Would not have it with other trim options though.

I have Park assist - works well and good fun (and useful). My reasoning was that I wanted front sensors so the extra cost above those was minimal.

Best thing about mine is the XEnons- staggeringly good.Worst thing- not much but I would not have chosen Gobi if I had known quite how pale it is. Seats are already getting a a patina of muck from my fishing jeans..The off road button is well worth it too..

Ah thanks didn't appreciate you were outside the UK.

Would think the full leather would be more hard wearing and easier to keep clean and the Columbus although very good is a bit overpriced in my own opinion so would get the DAB. Oh if you have the choice of 16" or 17" alloys the 16's are the better option particularly if the roads are in poor state of repair.

Just be mindful how quickly the Gobi leather stains when you wear jeans....... A few people on here have stopped wearing jeans just because they chose this interior colour! And I'm sorry I'm not letting my car dictate what clothes I wear!!!

As to Park Assist: I love it. And even if you don't use it often you are bound to use the front parking sensors a lot, which come as part of the this option.

I have the Gobi Interior. Whilst it doesn't stop me from wearing jeans, I don't wear them as often now and wear other even more comfortable trousers!

I have also had to clean my drivers seat twice so far in almost 9000 miles and it could do with cleaning again.

Useful to know this. I was contemplating Candy White with GObi interior, but now I'm not so sure!

I just bought a pack of leather wipes from aldi.

A quick wipe over and good as new.I find I have to use them about every 2 months, but wouldn't be without the Gobi leather as it brightens up the interior beautifully, especially with a dark paint colour.

Hear, hear!

Lovely, just what i wanted to hear!. Candy White and Gobi is back on my wish list.

Thanks, guys - inside info much appreciated.

As a matter of interest I've had a look at the Skoda UK site and can see quite a few differences with the spec here... main things:

- MDI built in

- Towbar is a factory fit option (very expensive to add a towbar on to a car here because of the paperwork, unless it's done at the factory as part of the CoC)

- Lots of other things like double sunvisors, roller nets, etc which you cannot seem to get

The main thing, though, is the price. My dealer quoted quite a bit off RRP which means I'm paying almost the same in euros as the UK price in pounds for the 1.8TSi. If I was to switch to a diesel, though, I'd be looking at a €6k premium, making the 1.8 a no-brainer - but in the UK the diesel is the same price - so I can now see why you're all driving 170PS diesels!

Options are more expensive in the UK as well... might be worth noting what others are paying, if any of you are negotiating with a dealer right now!

TPM €55 vs £100

Underbody protection €155 vs £200

Mats €40 vs £65

Silver roof rails €80 vs £150

Columbus €1200 vs £1510

Spare tyre FREE vs £75

Have the 110 TDI 4x4 as it's cheaper to purchase than any other engine linked to a Haldex here in the UK. Had a 140 previously and there's little difference in every day real world performance for the £800 premium you have to pay for 30 more hp.

On paper the 110 4x4 actually looks like a really good option, albeit for another 1,500€. I've not 100% ruled it out, especially now I'm getting so many positive comments.

In terms of use, I guess it'll probably spend more of its life under full load - which is no bad thing for EGR and DPF problems, and even when it is "thrashed" it's so under-run compared to the 140/170 that the engine will probably run forever.

30 more PS here costs another 2,500€, and the additional 30PS of the 170 would be yet another 2,000€... so the others are not a cheap option. A remap may be on the cards!

I would have loved to be able to get the double sunblind, it is a feature which would be very useful in the uk with the low sun coming in at 45 degrees.

We also get a lot more colours and combinations. I quite fancy an Aqua blue Yeti with a white roof! Can't seem to get those in the UK or can you?
