Hi all,

Our 2005 '05 vRS (65,000 miles) has developed a fairly serious problem over the last couple of months.

It sometimes fails to start even though it turns over strongly, it seems to fire up and then stall immediately. It also loses power intermittently whilst driving at various speeds, ie doing 50mph on a dual carriageway, the power drops for a second or two and then comes back.

My wife is currently out shopping with my baby daughter and she's just rung to tell me that it's 'stalled' 6 times this morning. She's been to a mechanic who said it could well be the cam sensor?? I only had the cambelt changed at the main dealer in August last year so i'll be a bit pee'd off if it is!

Hi Steve,

has this problem started from when you had the cambelt done?! if so then it might be a tooth out.... If it is just the sensor then these can fail at any time and not a replacement part when you do a cambelt service so you cannot really blame them for it.... unless it is a tooth out.

Thanks for the reply Mike. I've just had a call from my local stealer who've diagnosed a faulty crankshaft sensor - at a cost of £279! ouch! I wouldn't mind but i'm selling the car in a month and did want to be shelling out any more on it. Oh well!
