Sensible Tuning

Featured Replies

After reading a stack of Performance Vw mags of my fella's I've come to the swift conclusion that the 1.8 20v turbo engine is very tuneable.

But what products work best or would you recommend?

My engine is the 150bhp version in a 51 plate car.

I dont want to go to stupid with it but a healthy increase of power would be nice.

I would like to fit:

1)front mount intercooler

2)induction kit

3)200 cell racing cat(already pinched this of my fiancee Daves VR6 hehe)

4)dump valve(heard that the plastic factory ones can prove troublesome)

5)full stainless exhaust(thinking of using Pipewerx for this as they built the system that was on Daves Vr6 and it was pure quality)

6)remap

What would you recommend?

That's a good base setup for what will give you a big power engine. To actually get big power (250 to 300bhp estimated) you'd also need a bigger turbo, new injectors and an uprated injection pump, plus another custom rolling road remap.

Hi,

Your list looks about spot on!!

  • Forge make a good quality and well priced FMIC
  • Piper/Green/K&N panel filter
  • Pipewerx stuff is good! Don’t bother with Milltek as they're over priced and $h!t quality - speaking from experience.
  • Forge 007p recirculating DV
  • Jabba custom remap

This should get you around 220bhp & 225 ibs/ft torque from your KO3 turbo'd 1.8t....

If you had the vRS with the KO3s turbo you'd be looking at an extra 15bhp/torque perhaps.

These mods would certainly make a nice difference to performance!!

You might want to consider changing the turbo intake pipe (T.I.P) to a Samco inlet...

Don't forget to uprate things like suspension, in particular the bushes and fit a good rear anti roll bar!

This is brilliant thank you. Looking at a shock and spring kit as I take my grandparents out a lot in the car and dont want nothing to crash and bang like coilovers. Dave had a set on his Corsa track car and as awesome as they were on track, they were god awful on the road.

Is there a recommendation on how far to lower the car?

Dave had his Vectra V6 lowered 60mm and it started giving his CV joints trouble so he raised it back up to a 40mm drop.

I dont want to encounter any problems like this as need the car everyday.

Also, was considering Eibach anti-roll bars. Dave had these fitted to his Vr6 and they made a positive difference to the way the car drove.

1) Dampers - For sharper damping when pressing on, without too much extra harshness, Koni FSDs.

2) RARB - Eibach or Whiteline (your money, your choice). Pretty much essential for a vRS, because the stock setup has an uprated FARB, but only the "cooking" integral RARB for the rear beam, which gives a very under-steery balance compared with the cooking models. Less essential for other models like your 4x4 and my Elegance 1.9TDi (which actually oversteers [turns tighter than commanded angle] in some situaitons).
