Hessitation on Acceleration

Featured Replies

Hey again guys,

Firstly thank you all for your advice so far, your all fantastic!

Now the only other problem I have with my Skoda (touch wood) is that when i try and accelerate the car hessitates, It seems that between 1500-2500 revs the car is very hessitant to accelerate, and then when you get to 2500-3500 the car goes like the clappers! I really dont like having to push my car to accelerate to 3500 revs as the petrol consumptioons drops alot but I seem to have to do it all the time just to make the car go. I have already changed my map/air intake/manifold sensor & that sorted the problem for about a week before the problem came back.. Does anybody else suffer with this problem? And does anybody know how to fix it??

Thanks

Alex

Hello

Mine does this too, it's a diesel....if I'm really putting the foot down to get somewhere in a hurry (all single track up hill and down dale!) if I've had to put the brakes on or ease off the accelerator there's a moment when I go back to it that it has to have a little think....I was told to refer to it as 'acceleration lag' but I've no wise words, just thought I'd say 'I know what you're talking about'!

Ciao

With your car (TDI) it is probably turbo lag - where the turbo takes a short time to spool up to speed. This is quite normal. As for the MPI I'm not sure...

Thank you....thinking about it....p'raps it was 'Turbo Lag' I was told.... I was told I shouldn't worry about it....and to maybe drive slower!!! :o

does it have a sort of judder when you put your foot down? if it does it could be what went on my old car, the coil packs.

but to be honest the best way to save fuel is use the gears correctly. if needs be drop down a gear a short burst of fuel to get up to speed is better than having your foot down for longer while it gradually gets up speed.

and same goes with the turbo lag its best to stay in the power of the turbo. putting your foot down out of the turbos power can cause extra strain in parts like the transmission.

Jeez, way to hijack the thread!

Melilla, please answer the OP's question or start a new thread detailing your own problems.

Thank you.

Touchy! Had no intention of hijacking anything :o - thought I was simply agreeing I had a similar experience with my own car and making a little pleasant conversation, do please excuse me if I was way out of line....there's my box...shall get back in it.... ;)

(ps, thanks VRSowen)

Hey Guys,

Dont worry Melilla I am quite happy for you to talk on here :) My problem isn't a lag on acceleration so much as a lack of power, and when i do accellerate it is very slow & uneven, whether I am touching the throttle a little or have my foot right down it doesn't make a difference. And in regards to the previous comment about using the gears properly for the fuel economy.. This isn't an option as I need to 'rev hard' just to get the car to accelerate at all, especially on main roads :)

Highjacking a thread involves changing the content or natural progression of the OP.

Dont think that was Melilla's intention.

A liitle harsh me thinks.

However the thread now appears to be heading that way due to talking about highjacking threads B)

Harsh?

I couldn't have been much more polite, P's & Q's etc.

However I do maintain that it is standard forum 'netiquette' to post about an unrelated problem in a separate thread, thinking that Melilla might not know this I pointed it out politely, directly and succinctly.

Alehdorable, good luck getting any meaningful assistance with this, I only looked in here to see if I could help. I'm afraid I have nothing else to offer you other than this free bump.

Gentlemen, please ramble on.

No worries, Thanks for your help :) Does anyone else have any suggestions in regards to my acceleration problem? My best friend just suggested air intake cleaner?
