Removal of Engine cover

Featured Replies

Hi All,

Have moved to Portugal and have taken my 2010 Octavia 1.9Tdi Elegance with me. Part of the importation system is to have an extensive MOT to show conformity. (even though I have a Certificate of Conformity from Skoda)

One of the things I was told I should do before the MOT is to remove the Cover from the Engine as they do not do any mechanics. Not wanting to break it, or me, thought I had better ask before I attempt any dismantling.

There is a Nut and Thread at the rear, that I loosen/remove, as there seems to be a slide-in clip attached. I take it that the rubber seals to the Oil Filler and Dipstick just pull through when the Cover is removed. Once the Nut is removed, does the cover just lift up easily or are there other retainers?

Many thanks, RoystonB

Once you have loosenend the nut, Pull it upwards sharply as there is a couple of push fit retainers. The rubber seals on the dipstick and filler cap will pull through.

Chances are that you don't need to undo the nut - in my 2.0TDI the nut just holds two rubber washers together and there's a v-shaped prong on the back of the engine cover that just slides between them (ie. friction fit).

There are (if memory serves me) 3 push fittings to 'pop' on my cover - one at the front-left, one at back-right an another somewhere else :) Pull the engine cover upwards with some vigour at the front first, then the right and then the mystery one (you'll feel it when the others are free). The cover then slides forwards and the prongs slide out of the washers held by the nut.
