Airbag Light

Featured Replies

Hi. I have two Octavias. (54 & 55 reg)

One has the airbag warning lamp on, and I can't get it to go off. I have searched on here and found that the fault probably lays with the connection under the drivers seat?

I have checked this and it looks fine. If it has momentarily been broken, and now is fine, would the lamp stay on? If so, how do I reset it?

Please say I don't have to take it to a dealer and pay a couple of hundred to reset it.

TIA

Pete

Welcome

Yes once the light has been triggered it will stay on until it has been reset, either by a dealer or someone with VCDS.

Thanks for that, Gizmo. And thanks for the welcome, too.

VCDS will tell you why the light is on.

I have a similar problem: The airbag light went on after I removing the glovebox (disconnected the airbag on/off switch harness).

Even after reconnecting everything, the light is still on.

Does this mean that that passenger airbag is disabled ?

If I disconnect the battery, will it reset the light? (Don't have VCDS, not yet anyways).

Thanks.

The airbag controller will always attempt to deploy all airbags that have not been explicitly disabled.

You should reset the airbags with VCDS or a similar tool.

You think you cured the airbag fault by reconnecting the passenger airbag, but did you? Did you pull a wire? Do you have another fault? VCDS will tell you.

The warning light should never be ignored. You don't want to find out what's not working in an accident.

If an airbag is disconnected and the ignition is then turned on, the light will appear, with the light on ALL of the airbags are disconnected, not just the one that was disconnected (or the one where there is a fault).

Unfortunately disconnecting the battery will not reset the light, it's now VCDS or dealer time

From 2012 the airbag warning light is an MOT fail, not sure on the current situation.

As mentioned, once activated the light must be cleared with VCDS (VAG-COM) as its faults do not go away by themselves like some others do.

iirc the complete SRS is covered under the current MOT rules.

My Octavia is going in tomorrow to have the airbag light sorted. Apparently there's a common fault with some of the connections under the seat. Older models need to have the connections re-done, newer models have had a new connector block made for them.

Clock garage in Derby (ish) are charging me 35 quid to fix the connections (seat out, sort wiring, seat back in, reset light).

Fingers crossed they're right!

Just get some insulating tape and wrap it around the connection under the seats, its only an advisory on the MOT I asked the tester when I had my taxi mot in April

Air bags are currently not a failable item on a mot test.
