I've killed it!

Featured Replies

Hey folks.

So... the pug is dead! Or should I say murdered!!

Picture this. Doing 70mph just coming onto the slip road on A64 on my way home. I go to put it in 4th gear but don't realise I've got second (don't say anything. I've been maening to pay some attention to the rubbers on the selector shafts). Before I had released, i.e. once I had lifted the clutch out the, the damage had already been done. A LOT of revs and a LOT of smoke out the back (sorry to all who I temporarily blinded!) then the power died off and then nothing.

So towed to a local pug specilist. He says cambelt looks ok but obiviously with the huge over rev (car will do absolute max of 40 in 2nd gear usually) the valves couldn't keep up and then they had an argument with the pistons. The pistons won.

Oh well. So we're now thinking of getting a new car. Looking at a Roomster 1.4 TDI 80 perhaps.

R.I.P...

Doh! I'm sorry to hear that. I'm surprised it died, but I'm not surprised you missed a gear... The linkages on these are pretty sloppy at the best of times in my experience.

Are you planning on splitting it? Without wanting to be a vulture, please let me know if you are as I'm currently on the look out for a fair few 306 bits! :)

Ouch, good excuse to buy another car though.

Yeh it definitely died. Big time! Like I say the max top speed with it being a non-turbo in second is just over 40mph and thats with the engine screaming and not revving anymore. So to then suddenly have the engine forced to rev by a road speed of 70mph in second is a lot to ask of it!

I'm just going to find out how much it's worth to the local scrap yard and if it's not much I'll tow it back home and break it up myself.

And yes. Good excuse to get a new car. Just taxed it so will get 10 months worth back from that.

EDIT: Scrap yard will come and collect it and give me £100. Think I will have to do that really.

Roomster? Phil yer only a kid! (A rather tall one at that LOL). Get a Furby or an Octy :)

Lol. I'm 25, married and with a mortagage. A Roomster will fit right in there!

Nah! Furby is too small and Octy is too expensive right now.

The extra room in the Roomster will come in really handy.

It's more about saving money right now anyway. And having a decent run around car etc.

The only good pug is a dead pug :giggle:

A few years back a pug partner van passed me on a dual carriageway as we came off of a roundabout, the guy floored it and just got passed me when there was muck and bullets and smoke and steam out of the back and he coasted to the inside of the road. The next evening when I drove passed the spot you could see the oil stain and bits of the motor on the road so I guess it was con rod through the block on that one.

Octy's are getting cheaper now, esp ones that are a couple of years old mate :) Getting tempted with an Octy diesel when the time comes to say TTFN to the Felly. At least you didn't mention the other pensioners choice Skoda. :giggle:

We had a police car in at work that they had done that but they were doing 120 at the time, fair to say it made abit of a mess, put 2 rods through block

A similar thing happened to me as a passenger in a 6 month old Rover 216S, except that it was wet and at the second marker approaching a roundabout. It didn't destroy the car, just locked the front wheels, temporarily lost the steering, bounced over a kerb and ended up on the road around the roundabout facing the wrong way. Luckily it didn't happen two weeks later as a lampost appeared where we we went over the kerb.

Yeh. Conrod failure is fairly common on these engines.

Going to look at a Seat Cordoba Sport SE PD130 this week we have found. Lowered our budget slightly for the time being.

That's who's offered me £100 for it!

Think they have a few 306's in already so hence the lower price.
