DRL bulbs?

Featured Replies

Everything I have read and been told is that these bulbs are supposed to be long life and last the lifetime of the car.

Well I hope my car last longer than this!!

Sheila went out whilst I was asleep this morning and when I finally woke up at midday told me there was a funny light showing on the dash. Checked and it was the "bulb out" light. Checked all the lights I would expect like the brake lights but nothing, then noticed the front off-side DRL is out.

I wonder if they will cover that on the current and on-going warrenty claim?

Hi Graham,

in theory they should last up to 8000 hrs according to the spec sheet, which can be found here;

My link

Might be worth giving a warranty claim a go as there a 'long life' bulb which that one clearly isn't.

Not sure the life of a bulb should be used to predict the overall life of a car :giggle:

ATEOTD it's a 'normal' filament bulb, the life of these can be drastically reduced by vibrations etc.

I agree they should of lasted longer but bulbs IMO are a consumable item and can blow at any time, the one exception would be a xenon bulb - but purely because of the cost of them :giggle:

Except they aren't a "normal" filament bulb, but a supposedly LONG LIFE bulb. See the link TP posted. I'm nowhere near 8000 hrs!!

So they don't use the filament then? This will always be the weak link in a bulb, long life or not.

You get bad bulbs that blow within days of purchase, that just life.

I think that is the point. It is a "bad" bulb and should be replaced under guarantee. If Skoda claim a life of 8000 hours, then a bulb that fails so soon must have a manufacturers fault and be "not fit for purpose". Any dealer who wants to keep your custom will replace it without quibble.

Dealer informed and they "will look into it" next week when they collect the car to fit the rear door bumpstrips removed when they fitted the foils.

They are filament bulbs, but are claimed to be long life too.

I think you've just been unlucky. Skoda should replace FOC under warranty but it wouldn't suprise me if they try to wriggle out of it!

Well car back from dealers following the refitting of the door bump strips and lo-and-behold DRL still not working!!

It appears that they are expecting me to pay for it!

Not a happy bunny!!

How much does the actual bulb cost?

Haven't got a clue!

No note in the car and no call from the garage. Since I can't call out from here I will send an email tonight.

Email now sent to dealer! :dull:

I know it is here somewhere, but I'm just off to bed, and can't remember exactly what the code for the bulb is. Someone? Please?

This is not the right question. The right question is:

"Is this a dealer fit item"

If it is then the cost of fitting will far outweigh the cost of the bulb (Yeti not here at the moment so cannot check).

Same here, told bulb is a consumable and not covered by warranty. Dealer wanted €4 for the tailgate light! Got one free from local VW dealer :)

I've been trying to find somewhere to buy these P13W bulbs.

Flipping heck!!

Neither of the 2 companies listed in the Freedom section list them. Google brings up loads of Yank sites but no UK ones. Amazon don't list them at all.

Looks like it will have to be the dealer's!!!
