Towbar for 2005 hatchback

Featured Replies

Hello,

I'd like to get a towbar for my 2005 hatchback but I'm not keen on the idea of cutting the rear bumper to fit one. Does anyone know of a kit that doesn't require me to cut the bumper?

Thanks.

im pretty sure you will have to cut it for any towbar but its only the very edge - its not a visible cut as its so far under the rear of the car

I would agree with the previous post, you will have to cut the bumper. The bumper curves down and then back towards the front of the car, flat with respect to the road. It is dificult to see how it could be left without a cut. The good news is that there is no necessity to cut anything but the flat unseen part. Indeed, on mine there was a raised marking in the plastic (on the inside of the bumper) showing where to cut for the OEM towbar. I followed that for the most part.

Mine is a Westfalia vertical detachable and the cut is NOT visable. The electrical socket also flips up behind the bumper so that isn't seen either.

I would sugest you visit the web pages of Westfalia, Bosal and Witter and download the instructions for the towbars applicable to you model. That will put your mind at rest. IIRC each of the towbars listed will specify whether a cut is needed, and then whether it is actually visable.

Im getting a Towbar fitted next week at Indespension in Edinburgh. I have used them before and they do good work. They recommended the PCT Towbar, which is what I am getting, and is removable with flip up electrics. The cut is made on the flat part of the bumper under the car so is not visible when looking at the car, Although, I was looking under a short while ago and see that the facelift already has the cutout in the bumper, which is handy !
