Speeding ticket

Featured Replies

Hello all,

Received a speeding ticket in the post this morning for doing 30mph in a 35mph zone, this was because I was in a rush to get to work :@ As I'm sure you can understand i'm really not happy about it, but at the same time if iv'e been caught speeding then fair enough.

What I want to know is, how can I avoid the 3points on my license? Will I be offered the option of a driver awareness course or anything?

Someone please give me some advice :(

Thanks

Driver awareness course depends on the area, not all forces offer it. However I think you're within the guidelines for being offered it, my local force (Nottinghamshire) apply the following restrictions:

* Admission of being the driver received by the police within 42 days of the offence.

* Not having attended such a Speed Awareness course within the last 3 years up to the date of the last offence.

* Speed must fall within the acceptable speed range (Speed limit + 10% + 9mph)

So at 35 in a 30 I would imagine you'd be offered it if your local force use it as long as you haven't already done it. Might be worth asking on pepipoo.com as well, someone might be able to tell you more definitely on there whether the course is an option in your area.

Sure you meant doing 35mph in a 30mph zone :giggle:

If they were considering a driver awareness programme as an alternative, you would have been offered it already. Since you've received the NOIP (notice of intended prosecution), then assume you have no other option.

I would suggest that unless you have a rock solid defense, then court action is best avoided as this will only add to you costs and will be very unlikely to succeed.

What exactly have you received?

It may well be an initial notice to owner to supply details of driver, in which case a speed awareness course may not yet be out of the question

True, but assumed he had received the NOIP, as he stated 'speeding ticket'. However always worth asking, nothing ventured.......

wouldn't recommend going to court tho'

in my experience 2 groups of people you never mess about with, Police and Airport Security, avoid court like the plague i got 4 points and £140 fine !!

My guess, and its only a guess, he's received a combined NIP and Section 172 (or is it s.170?) request for driver information. Most people don't know the difference between these two thing and the actual Fixed Penalty Notice.

What he said lol.... Yeah its just the S172. Plan is to return it and basically sit and see what happens. General thoughts are that I should receive an offer of the SAC as opposed to the definite 3 points and £60 fine.

Don't return it too early. Nothing to be gained by returning early but do make sure you return before the 28 days are up.

There's a good chance you'll get a course as central gov pay forces a lot for each driver that does one.

Gutted!

I recieved my NOIP along with the (in the same envelope) details for the speed awareness course.

You will have both options when you recieve the NOIP.... The first letter is to confirm you were the driver.

Northumbria Police area definitely offer it at a place near Cramlington. I've had one for similar speed but not every time. My partner has done 2, both for low 30+mph.

:giggle: Airport security's fun, My phone charger and usb cable got tangled up in my hand luggage, had a couple of machine guns pointed at me and the whole of the x-ray department stopped. apparently it looked like a perfect bomb as i'm half asian too they took me as a suicide bomber almost 5hit meself :giggle:

Lie down play dead, pay your fine, get your three points. put it down to experience, and avoid being late for work.emoticon-0140-rofl.gif

All you need is a countdown on your mobile or laptop screen in Arabic and you're set for a fun holiday somewhere cosy.

Friend was going to do it waiting for a US flight, but thought better of it thankfully

Return the 172 along with a letter requesting information regarding the course, alternately E MAIL the force (most have an enquiry address) I asked Aberdeen force for some information and had the answer 6 hrs later.

Hope this helps.

ain't it funny how you only spot spelling mistakes AFTER you press send.

Not necessarily, some areas do send combined NIP/S172/FPN/SAC in one go but the legality of these is questionable and it's not standard. The proper procedure is a combined NIP/S172 to the RK and once the driver has been established then offer a SAC/FPN if within guidelines.
