Slide Pins...HELP.

Featured Replies

Hi All,

You may remember a period of time ago, I came here for some advice on the purchase of an Octy VRS in a private sale - Thanks those that offered advice, in the end I took the advice of a number of members and went with my instinct. Luckily, so far - It appears to have paid off - No major dramas, and the guy I dealt with was very friendly and very helpful when i met him in person...

Since the purchase, Ive had a full 40k service, a cambelt, waterpump and brake fluid change and nothing out of the ordinary was found during the service...very happy.

Anyway - The last few days, Ive noticed what could be described as a Metallic "Knocking" coming from the driver side wheel arch over potholes and speed bumps. I spent a number of days trying to figure out what it was, countless threads etc and eventually, today, realised that the noise was not present with the brake pressed. As a result, I immediately inspected the brake area and noticed there was a little play in the caliper...

To cut a long story short - It appears the "Wire" that runs from the top to the bottom of the caliper that holds the pad in place is missing, as as a result the pad is moving around inside the caliper hence the noise..

I think its mechanically linked to the Slide Pins - However, my knowledge of cars is very limited...So I was wondering if;

Would the loss of this part effect the slide pins in anyway IE would they be broken, fallen out or defective ?

Can this part be purchased separately - And does anyone know the part number ?

Any other advice ?

*Edit - It appears the part im missing is the Brake Spring Clip*

Thanks All,

The part you are missing is an anti rattle pin. It stops the pad rattling when the brakes arent in use, so i guess its your problem. You can get these from halfords or any decent motor factor aswell.

Excellent - I will visit the dealer on the way home...

Is there anything I need to know about fitting, i preusme you simply guide them around the caliper ? Is there any need to remove the caliper or undo or remove any bolts...?

Thanks Guys,

-Vinny-

part number should be 1K0 615 269

They just pop into place, dead simple no need to remove anything.
