Why does my car alarm keep going off?

Featured Replies

Can anyone tell me why my car alarm keeps going off for no reason?! It will be sitting in the drive or at work locked up and it just starts going off for no reason as i can see and there's no one near it. It will go off and i have to leave it when im at work but it stops after about 10-15 seconds. It has now started doing this nearly everyday now and not sure if it is a sensor problem or what, or how to solve it. Thanks

hi

I would suggest that you have the car scanned with Vag-com to see what is the trigger is and to see what faults show up.

I see you are in Norfolk, I'm in Great Yarmouth if that is any good to you

Try disabling the deadlocks by locking twice quickly, this also disables the interior motion sensor, which is probably the cause of the false alarms.

I believe it reacts to air pressure changes so might be worth directing the air vents to the footwells as temporary measure.

In my car manual it says the opposite to what you are saying. It says pressing the lock button on the remote twice within 2 seconds will ACTIVATE the interior motion sensor.

Like I put earlier, you need to know what the trigger is. No point trying to switch the interior monitoring off if it is a faulty lock or wiring issue

My parents alarm kept going off randomly not so long back. I scanned it and from what I remember I don't think it really gave us much as to why it was going off. There was a fault logged against the horn, it could have possibly been that. I adjusted the ultrasonic sensor sensitivity to lowest - it did still go off, but that said it hasn't happened for a while now AFAIK. Seems to have fixed itself? I should ask them if it has gone off recently.

I'm also in Yarmouth / Lowestoft with VCDS, so if you do decide you wanted the car scanned Eddie or myself can probably help you out :)

What about the bonnet sensor? I've heard that this can cause problems with alarms.

My car used to do this......no fault codes...disabled the interior sensor...still did it........turned out it was a neighbours diesel fabia when she started her's up!!!! And considering my car was parked in a concrete garage I decided to just remove the horn...system stil works and will imobilise the car....just that there is always a fault code in the ecu for "can not com with horn"...no lights on dash etc!! B)

P.S. the rechargable batteries in the horn need replacing every 8 yrs I think...but unless you are good with a soldering iron and can source the batteries then a new horn!

I've been told that locking with the key rather than the plip disables the volumatic and vibration sensors. Ok, it's not a cure, but if you can disable sensors by locking the car differently, it does reduce the number of possible faults.

I have never heard my alarm - how do I check it works?!

Lock with the blipper (one click) then unlock using the actual key and sit in the car, usually works for me. Crappy thing :dull:

I'll give it a go on my lunch break - it just makes sence to know how your alarm sounds (and if it works (without actually breaking in!)) :giggle:

Well, that did the trick! Cheers!

Nice an loud aren't they

Mine did this sort of thing last winter. Assuming it's the same alarm...

When you arm the alarm/lock the car, the indicators will flash. If they don't, there's a problem with one of the sensors.

If my indicators didn't flash I KNEW the alarm would then go off within 5-30 minutes.

Eventually I got bored and removed a fuse, fuse 60. Fuse is in the fusebox on the driver's side end of the dashboard. You can use old/knackered credit card to prize the cover off. There should be a tool in the fuebox (tweezers?) to remove the fuse.

If there's a problem with the bonnet catch switch, I've read that your intermittent wipers won't function.

The two catches/switches you can get at are the bonnet switch and the tailgate switch. The tailgate one is the rubber button/stopper. Try nuking both with WD40 or similar. The tailgate one you can push/release repeatedly whilst or after WD40ing.

Hi, my Roomster (model 2011) alarm went off 5 or 6 times last 6 months. The first 2 or 3 times the alarm doesn't stop either with the ignition on. The dealer has not found the problem.

Now occasionally the alarm light flash but without sound.

Not wanting to hijack the topic here but do peoples cars beep when they lock them or not. Mine always gives me a couple of peeps when I unlock and one when I lock, but my mates doesn't. Just wondering if I have a different alarm or if his is broken. Also, I locked mine using one key press with the windows open the other day, to let my seats dry after cleaning. After about an hour I stared feeling around through the open window and the alarm went of which would suggest the interior sensors are armed even under one keypress.

Someone has enabled the audible Lock/Unlock confirmation with VCDS

A single key press deadlocks the car and enables the interior monitor, A double key press disables the deadlocks and turns off the interior monitor!
