Turbo boost problems (low power)

Featured Replies

Right,

I'm hoping someone else has had this problem...

My car seems to lose low power frequently, basically there is no power upto 2500rpm, but if you're driving along and take it to 2500rpm the turbo steps in to boost, but the car seems to hold back (hesitates) then the turbo boosts and it goes again... Unusual behaviour.

And also i've noticed it ticks over at 1000rpm, any reason for this?

Any advise or help? Cheers

DPF most likely is trying to do a force regen, the rev counter will idle at 1000rpm it does this first to try and help clear the DPF,if it can't clear then the light comes on to warn you.Take the car for a blast for 10mins or so,you will know when its cleared as the rev needle will drop back below 1000 rpm when idle, probably what's causing the hesitation too.

Mine has just started doing the exact same, feels like it's spluttering too!

I've done this, as soon as the DPF light comes on, the revs drop below 1000rpm :S confusing as this is when the DPF is supposedly runnign when lights on... But i give it death, and it some cases i've drove at at least 2000rpm for half an hour, the DPF light still doesn't go off, then the glow plug light flashes, then engine management eventually and it's ******. :(

But when it's idling at 1000rpm it's spluttering/spitting/blowing (sounds nice though!)

mine does this too but no lights come on only started happening when i drove on a really low tank now it just happens randomly and is really annoying down on power then just suddenly comes in with a bang i have a k&n typhoon kit on it and you can hear the suck loads more when its down on power! any ideas its a 10 plate diesel vrs.

Cheers Gareth

I think you are supposed to get and hold the revs above 3000rpm to generate enough heat for cleaning , at 2000rpm engine has only just started to boost

You have got to keep the revs above 2000rpm,From what i can remember in the manual it says drive in 4th gear above 2500rpm for 10-15 mins, but you don't have to keep it in 4th just a good run along an expressway/motorway should clear it.Mine as sometimes taken 15-20 mins of driving to clear.

Engine man light comes on because the dpf is having a job clearing, probably because you not getting high enough revs to get the dpf cleared, usually then its a trip to the dealer to get it cleared..Give it some constant revs keep it above 2500rpm and it should be ok,that is if its just dpf issues and nothing else.

Definitely DPF issues for the OP :(

Been there with a previous car & the symptoms are exactly as described. Might be worth getting a member to check the soot level in the DPF with VCDS, as if it's very clogged it may need a forced regen.(Or worse)

@ Big-gareth-yours will be a CR engine if it's a 10 plate, which doesn't suffer the same DPF issues. I don't want to sound smart but it may well be the K&N system that's causing it to play up?

I've never heard of any gains or advantages on a diesel engine with an induction kit, BTW.

I had very similar issues with mine last year.......the local Skoda dealer caused it during a service/clutch fault find. They actually split one of the boost pipes for the turbo, leaving me with hardly any power, kangarooing around, and no more than 3000 rpm......Just a thought.

Mine has been in the garage for at least the last 2 weeks, so far they have replaced a boost pipe and told me they think it needs a new ECU as they think it's kicking out 104Nm extra torq from a dodgy remap but no(or very little) bhp, tbh it has no more pull than my mates Audi A4 170 PD, same engine!!

So now they think it may need a new ECU... if so, glad it's under warranty... but they told me the turbo hasn't played up since sent to the major skoda dealer so maybe it was just a boost pipe???

I'll keep you updated, may even ask for a full engineers report to the problem, cause and fixes just in case anyone on here has same problem :)

Well it's been back it again for same problem... kind of!

It went back in because it was loosing all boost below 2500rpm but now and then the glow plug light started flashing... the dpf light has not been on so it's nothing to do with dpf not clearing on regen.

It just randomly loses power and glow plug light flashes...

While in the garage this time they put a new wiring loom, boost pressure sensor, cleared the dpf right out to no soot and also the egr valve cleaned... but i've just been out again, and it's happened another 2 times tonight...

Surely someone has had the same problem? :(

Or can help?

Thanks

And another point to add... It smells hot - like turbo is very hot - don't know if this would affect anything or be a cause of any of these problems?
