Now i should know the answer to this question as my MR2 roadster has 5.5J alloys on the front and wears 185/55/15 tyres

but i wanna check that the 5.5j 13" and 14" alloys that came on the Fellys will fit 185/55/14 or 13" or 185/60/14 or 13" tyres

cos i only ever see them with 165/70/14 or 13 and a 165/70/14 to a 185/55/14 is a big jump

The 185 width should fit no problem as both my brother and my dad have 14x5.5j steel wheels on each of their cars and both have 185/60/14 fitted with no issues

The 185s you're talking about are safe to use with a 5.5" rim (Ford particularly did this a lot in the 1970s and 80s). Whether or not there is sufficient clearance to use them on a Felly I dunno.

i would assume there is as my crrent Felly has 14" E30 bmw alloys fitted that have 185/55/14 tyres on them.

oh and 185/55/13 wheel would have an overall lower height than 165/17/13 anyway so the car will be lower to the ground!!

yeah just checked and the overall height on a 165/70/13 would be 565mm and a 185/55/13 would be 529mm so basically 36mm lower which means the car will sit 18mm lower to the ground! sweet

The 185/55 will also give you 7% lower gearing, which may make make your speedo read illegally.

does this mean my car when reading(hypotheitcal example) 100mph i will actually be 93mph or 107mph

at the moment my Felly it optimistic in terms of speedo readout so when reading 100mph i'm actually doing about 91mph if this is the case then when combined with the reduced wheel height i will be reading 100mph and only doing about 84mph! no risk of being caught out by a speed camera then.

i run 6j wheels on mine with 195/50/50 tyres and the speedo is actually far more accurate than it ever was before with the standard wheel and tyre setup..

6j is pretty much the practical limit on a felicia otherwise the wheels either stick out of the arches or bind against the front dampers (depending on offset) mine are et43.. however the 6j wheels do make the handling a bit twitchy, wouldn't recommend it unless you have power steering

One of my sets of 15" wheels has 185/65s on they are bmw mini steels, they do rub on full lock, but somehow still passed an MOT!

I've got 185/60/13s on my tarmac wheels on 5.5x13 wheels, and they don't rub anywhere. The 165/80 forestry ones do on the backs of the wheel arches when braking heavily while turning, which is nice.

The speedo reading must, by law, be in the range $Road_speed to $Road_speed * 1.1. So reading 100mph and doing 84 is illegal. Whether or not you'll get caught is another matter.

Oh okay i wasn't aware of that... i suppose minor consolation is that i will be going slower than my speedo says rather than faster.

i wonder if that means my mpg readings are inaccurate or will the odometer still display correct mileage or for every 100miles my clock shows i've only actually travlled 84miles.

With a Felly, I'm certain that the mileage will clock up faster with the lower gearing too. Also, the higher revving engine may make the actual fuel consumption worse, and almost certainly will make the car noisier to travel in.
