Sony Xperia X10 Not recognising on 1 PC but does on the other Stuck

Featured Replies

Recently got a Sony Ericsson X10 and it had android 1.6 on it and decided to download the sony ericsson update manager software to put android 2.1 onto it, However when i plugged it into My PC downstairs which is running windows 7 home premium but it would not appear as a mass storage device and came up as "unrecognised" I tried other USB ports on the machine but still nothing. I then tried it on my wifes laptop running XP and had the same problem even sony were confused and said I should send it into repair.

This is the bit that is doing my head in, I decided to try it in my sons PC also running windows 7 home premium and it recognised the phone straight away :o both mine and my sons machines are running the same AMD duel core processors with the same ram with the only difference being different makes of mother board.

I cant understand why the phone picks up on one windows 7 machine and not the other, Its a bit of a pain as I have had to buy a bluetooth adapter to transfer data between the phone and computer

Does anyone here have any suggestions on what I could do to make it recognise the phone, I have reset the phone to factory defaults but this did nothing, Certainly confusing me and something for which I nearly sent the phone back because of.

One more thing I dont have any problem with other phones/devices if they are plugged into the same USB ports just this phone.

Thanks for any help you can give, cheers.

I presume it is set up to act as a disk drive when you plug it in?

Yes it is, what happens on the machine where it works is the phone shows an icon to connect as USB but yet on my machine i get nothing just unrecognised device. Its really confusing...well to me it is.

Have you gone onto the laptop manufacturers websites and ensured that all the current revision drivers are also up to date? including flashing the BIOS etc? And that your pc's versions of windows are also currently updated?

Failing that Googling to see if anyone else with your same laptops are also having connectivity issues..?

Might also want to try using another USB lead.. sounds silly but I've had problems like this before and found out it was due to some dodgy OEM cable.
