You've got your fog lights on

Featured Replies

Is anyone else getting this or is it just me? 3 times in the past week alone other motorists flashing and pointing at the front of the car suggesting I've got fog lights on when they don't realise they are DRL's. I've explained to a few people when I've had the opportunity to stop that they are a legal requirement since the beginning of this year but it seems that many drivers don't realise. One senior gentleman in a Volvo estate (you'd think he'd know what DRL's are!)honked his horn at me whilst pointing at the front of my car, pulled alongside and wound down his window to try and tell me off! I'm now thinking Skoda should have fitted LED DRL's from new as these seem less likely to be mistaken for fogs.

Ignore the ignorant!!

Have only had it twice and that was when i first had the car before the influx of Fords and Mercs with them on.

Mine are the LED type though - the filament ones on first glance do look like fogs tbh, they should have put them in the headlight housing (like VW do) or in between like on the VRS.

I've never been flashed, either before I changed them to LED, or after.

EU requirement on MY11-on builds.

Not been flashed in mine either (the std bulbs came straight out when I got the car home)

Only on new models I believe?

So car built in 2012, but was available in 2010 would not need them, bit of a daft rule if true as all it would need it a bit of coding on most cars.

It doesn't apply to all new cars either. My factory built Caterham is brand new and it doesn't have DRL's. Maybe that's down to low volume type approval or something similar.

I even had problems with the police.I explained them everything but they still told me to turn them off...so,as ChrisRs says..ignore the ignorant :)

You've seen a policeman?

Not a problem with the early Mk2 Superbs like mine, the DRL's are the dipped headlights running at 80% - just like a Volvo - none of this flashy LED Boy Racer stuff!

Where did you see a policeman, their knowledge does seem to confirm they were real.

Still no LED's on the Superb; just a set of Filament bulbs, but they are in the fog light housing...

Still cannot believe that after all these months with road cars on with DRL their still pigs ? about the issue.

The new VW non xenon models have DRL on the same spot as Skodas, I ask and already refered on anotehr post

Is it because we drive SKODA

For god shake, not even over here where policemen may bother you because they fell like it.

I noticed on the new Superbs in our area that the DRL is not LED, did think it was strange around the lack of consistancy across the range that the LED DRL's were not fitted, does anyone know why ?

I personally prefer the LED version as it is easily identifiable as DRL, where Fiat like the Superb use a bulb within the headlight cluster, making it easy to mistake that your lights are on.

I dont have any issues in my area from the police & the DRL's as over 90% of the cars used are either Fabia's or estate Octavia's

I have had 1 person very recently flash me ( I have LED's), but when i checked out the driver, he looked very much like he did this to audi & merc drivers as well. emoticon-0124-worried.gif

That's something I was wondering about when I started this thread. It can't be cost surely, LED's aren't expensive. Maybe Skoda don't think it would fit with the image of the car? I guess Superb owners can be grateful that those who flash or point have at least seen us coming, even if they are confused and don't keep up with new vehicle regs!

I have had people flash me in my Mondeo, with its LED DRLs; but they are incredibly bright, so that might be confusing or annoying some people.

On top of the DRL's being mistaken for fog lights, the cornering light function also seems to wind up the smart-alec community. For the last time I DO NOT HAVE A FAULTY FOG LIGHT!

Same here, I've been "advised" about 5 times, so far, that one of my fog-lamps is faulty!

My first job when I get my new car will be to swap the DRL bulbs out for LED's. :)

I have had a Light Emitting Diode frenzy. I've done all the car.

But I am easily LED.

Boom Boom!

Would you or Dave see if you can do a pinned thread with all the bulbs used, I'm going to have a bit of a frenzy myself when I get mine! (don't tell SWMBO tho!!)

The ones on the left are for the roof lights and door warnings. The ones on the right are for the tailgate and the footwells.

Phil.

These are for the vanity mirror lights.
