Featured Replies

Let me know how you get on with the sales of goods act, this should not be happening to a 4 year old car.

Does the SOG act only apply if you're the person who originally purchased the car?

No, it applies to purchases of new or used items, and the 6 years runs from the date you purchased it on, not the original date of purchase. Parents had bubbling on their Octavia - dealership said not covered under warranty, replied back saying don't care fix it under SOG, within a month the turbo went, and the paintwork was quietly fixed at the same time.

My mate paid £80ish last month to have his redone.

Ok my Vrs SE 07 Good on Friday, today the spoiler has bubbled up as in the OP pix

How do you remove the spoiler, so I can sand it down and respray myself ?

Sick the car is immaculate, as new, apart from this appearing

I find if I apply pressure along the bubble it clears so I am going to slice into it with a razorblade leaving a flap, dry with a hair dryer

fold flap back and apply clear laquer, then roll flap back whilst still wet squeezing out any air, and that should seal it, I hope

Because of the way it's bonded. I was advised by the bodyshop when I had mine that it would need to be done in situ.

So it was masked off and dealt with on the car. Think there's the risk that further damage is caused removing it, to the bootlid and the spoiler itself.

It did not work. as I folded it back it snapped off

I cleaned up the edges then applied two coats of clear laquer, Does not look too bad, but obvious

looking at the first pics I thought I was looking at my own car! I took mine to claybank in manchester when it was just a haze patch (before it started peeling) and was told that because it's not coming from the underside to the outside it's not covered. I was thinking of taking it to Hobins to see what they think (as the cars been there a few times under warranty) but after reading these comments it maybe wasted time.

It is a joke how they can get away with this when so many of us have this common issue. (esp on a 4 yr old car!)

Totally agree. Ridiculous,

It should be done under the ten year warranty on paintwork and not the get out clause EVEN if it is an on car respray job, something should be offered

my front bumper has peeling lacquer skoda has repaired it 3 times but still doing it its a load of pants

Here is the reply I got when I sent Hobins an email:

Good Morning Mr. Wilson

Unfortunately this item is not covered by the Skoda paint warranty as this is valid for 3 years from first registration.

If I may be of any further assistance, please do not hesitate to contact me

Regards,

Juan Brandariz.

Service Manager.

Seems to me like Skoda are dodging us with known issue.

FURTHER ASSISTANCE! :giggle: :giggle:

I've just got back from a couple of weeks holiday and notice mine is peeling really badly! I'm sure it wasn't there before so it must come on quite quickly. It looks awful - now I see it is a fairly common issue.

My Fabia VRS SE is doing it too - NOT impressed!!! I had a 7 year old Felicia years back which hadn't a blemish on it grrrrrrrrrr!

An update on this -

My local Skoda dealer, Sipmspons of Colne, contacted Skoda and were told because the car was out of the 3 year paint warranty nothing would be done.

I have since contacted Skoda myself to tell them this is not good enough and quoted The Sale Of Goods act. Telling them that I have 22 year old Golf at home on which the spoiler paintwork is perfect and that it seems Skoda are in effect inferior to the rest of the VAG range.

I have said I'll await their reply before contacting trading standards.

I also told Simpsons that I would initially contact Skoda myself but that (again under the sale of goods act) the responsibility in fact lies with them as they sold me the car not Skoda.

Skoda have just got back to me and there is nothing they can do apparently? The say it is not covered by the paint warranty and that's that. They sy it's not a paint defect.

I'll take stock and decide what to do next.

OK an update on this. I've been in touch with Trading Standards and from that I've sent a letter to the dealer (Simpsons Of Colne) asking them to rectify the problem as it their responsibility. I asked for a response within 14 days.

Well 14 days is very nearly up and I've heard bugger all.

Next is a Recorded Delivery letter then I shall contact the small claims court.

What I cannot understand is the total lack of response. Even if they came back and said NO, nowt to do with us I could understand, but to ignore the issue completely is pretty bad form. The letter was addressed to Neil Simpson who owns the business.

Best of luck with it. Good on you for being persistent emoticon-0148-yes.gif

Fingers crossed for an acceptable resolution.

Is it not possible to ditch the spoiler altogether and polish the paintwork underneath? I have one of these spoilers on my vRS and am not convinced that it does anthything meaningful. If mine went all manky I would be tempted to ditch it - if it did nothing important that is.

Not really, as the spoiler is bonded to the tailgate. So you'd need to have the tailgate painted afterwards. Then a vRS would look odd without the rear spoiler.

But you're right in the fact that it's just there as a styling addition.

OK here's what I hope to be a final update.

Simpsons have again contacted Skoda, who have again rejected any warranty claim. So Simpsons have offered to go half and half on the cost of repainting the spoiler. This equates to £50 each. I've accepted this and the car will be getting painted in the New Year with a courtesy car offered for the duration.

This I feel was going to be the best offer I'd get without me resorting to court action.
