Passenger door handle - opens on 2nd pull

Featured Replies

Another problem!

Since getting car back from repairers, the passenger door opens on the second pull of the handle each time it is unlocked. If it's been opened already, it doesn't have this issue - only on fresh unlocking.

Any ideas? Can't be assed to take it to the repairers - quite a distance away from me..

Cheers

It could be the cable from the outside handle to the the lock/catch mechanism incorrectly adjusted. To get to it the blanking plug where you would expect to see a key slot needs to be removed. If you open the door you'll see a grommet or two, behind these there will be some torx screws, a black small headed one which will have to be removed and a large headed silver one. The large headed screw rotates a cage when screwed in and out, the cage moves in grooves on the blanking plug, when the cage is at a certain position the plug can be pulled out. The screw is unscrewed to line the cage on the plug. If you unscrew it too far, bits can drop down into the door and you do NOT want this to happen.

With the plug removed, you'll see the serrated female channel on the handle with the cable having a corresponding male end. Pop the cable out of the channel and locate it in a different position and see if that cures it.

Or just hold the door handle open and prise the cable towards the car one or two notches.

Make sure the cable goes towards the car and not away from car other it could deadlock.
