help please! tech problem

Hello all!

I have a 1999 Skoda Octavia 1.6LX. It's been mine for nearly 1yr in which time I've taken it from 80k to 110k miles.

just having a problem!

started early this year, when it was cold....

* cold mornings, within the first 1-2-3 miles, sometimes when accelerating it feels like how it would if I were taking my foot off the pedal for a few seconds (when I'm not)...

* this happened for a few weeks until one day, it was really bad! pulling away from junctions I went to accelerate, especially when I first engage 2nd, and it not only had the lull in acceleration but it died! I got it started and soldured on, in a 2 mile round trip it died maybe 3-4 times (as in I pull up to a roundabout, it's my turn so I set off, and it dies in the middle of the junction) it was also getting harder and harder to restart, finally to where it'd die as soon as starting.

* I took it to the near-by garage (not skoda) 2hrs later he said he couldn't be sure what was up? as it was a-ok for him? changed the plugs as they looked a bit grimey, but couldn't say for sure that was the 'fix' £20-£30 later and I'm happily motoring without issue

* so about 2 weeks ago it started again, just occasionally, upon engaging 2nd or 3rd and accelerating, only when within 5min of first use of the day... 1-2-3sec lulls in acceleration..

* yesterday, totally naff again, it was a fairly cold day, I got to the local shop with a couple of worse-than-usual lulls, then after buying from the shop, it WOULD NOT start,

* kinda clunked and stopped trying if I attempted a little gas to help it start.

* on one try the oil light beeped and flashed 2-3times then went off, so I looked, oil ok?! I put a dash in to take the oil from middle to top,

* I got it started, though it sounded rough like an old knackered deisel! I reversed out of my space, hit first & went to pull off, it died!

* started it up, drove home not letting revs go under 2 at any moment (even red lights), it JUST made it! when I got it to my house and turned it off, I tried to start it (curiosity) it started ok!? sounded better?

any ideas?

cruddly fuel? something clogging a pipe or tube somewhere? dodgy electrical connection?

otherwise, and aside from the scratches, I kid you not, it is as if it were brand new!

if it helps, when it lulls or dies, the accelerator makes NO difference, you can slam your foot to the floor and still watch it die

I'm saving for a yeti, I need this old work horse to last another 6month - 1year?

Thanks peeps

Fault codes would be a help, if it's not logging any possible throttle body fault I'd say by the sounds of it.

I have vag com if you need it scanning for fault codes that'll give you a better idea of whats up i'm in lancaster/morecambe

Could well be the coolant temp sensor fault sending wrong temp information to the ECU. The old black CTS is a known issue on all VAG cars.
