Re-maps. Has anyone used these people?

Found it on ebay this am. Seems pretty cheap. Was wondering if anyone has used them? Most remaps seem to be £300-£500, this one is £150?

I wouldn't, remember the old adage if it looks too good to be true it probably is, there is a reason why Shark or Revo charge the price they do for the remaps due to the effort taken to write them etc, they may say the remaps are "Custom Written" on their rolling road, it appears its mobile installers so for all you know someone could have downloaded a stack of generic maps not tweaked etc. I know this may sound like scare mongering but just think, you are maybe saving £200 but what if it cooks your engine etc? Go with someone well established and trusted.

Can't say I've heard of any reviews, but I really don't understand why people skimp so much on things like a remap.

Yes it may be cheap, but at what cost later down the line? Saving £150 now may end up costing you several hundred in new components in 6 months time.

Also what come back do you have from somebody like that if something goes wrong with the car 5 minutes after they've driven off?

Save up for a bit longer and go with one of the sponsors on here. Tuning on the cheap is never the best of options.

I did a lot of research before getting my TSI mapped, and ultimately went with Shark - I havent heard a bad word about Ben and the gang.

Not sure of the value of your car, but the cost of the map didnt sway me, it was the cost of putting it right if it went wrong.

You want a company that will help if anything doesnt go to plan. it happens.

I'm chuffed to bits with mine anyway. thoroughly recommend.

Thanks for the replies and advice. How much quicker does the car feel with the map and does anyone have performance figures before and after? 0-60 0-100 and mid-range?

So much better, mine is stage 1 revo. I knew the guy who was doing it so I got mine for £200 and it's the best thing I ever did. The car feels so much more responsive and the torque gains is amazing. Think there meant to run at around 187bhp and around 310lbft/ torque. 0-60 is improved greatly but I have never timed it, 3rd and 4th pull like mad and 3rds good for 40-70ish easily. Apparently they will beat most diesels BMW's with midrange pull, and I can vouch for that ;-)

Some people spout total rubbish about remaps. Most on here stick to Shark as a safe bet and don't look around for a what could be a better map at a cheaper price.

To help the OP here is some Info on said company

Fusion has been set up by Ben who left R-tech last year to form Tuneside with a partner which soon failed, so Ben went back to R-Tech to be the mobile tuner.

Under the name fusion (which is part owned by Nick at R-Tech)  they offer nationwide mobile remaps, which Inc, Revo maps, D N A Tuning maps, Fusion maps for all make and models, and R-Tech VAG Stage1 generic maps only (all R-tech spec1 and above are all in house custom rolling road maps)

All the above as you say may well be true and i don't doubt you for a second. However none of that is made clear in the ebay listing for the remap, no link to a dedicated website, a google search for "Fusion Performance Engine Tuning" yields no results, no mention of the connection to R-Tech, so without knowing R-Tech as a company and knowing all the backstory how are people supposed to be able to make an informed decision to use Fusion for a remap? Would you trust your pride and joy to a company advertising on ebay based purely on that listing?

I have not read the listing but I know who fusion are simply by doing my homework and spending many hours searching various forums like this and also chip tuning forums.

Swings and roundabouts I guess, I've heard some shocking stories about DNA remaps, especially their cut and paste specials on the caddy 2k, shocking really with no limits set and boost requests way beyond max revs etc.

Some tuners do set Boost requests high, Revo have incredible boost requests on the tfsi. I've had no problems at all with DNA maps and a local tuner has never had any problems either, he swears by them and has never had a customer return with a map fault yet. My map requests low boost but gives good power with a very conservative AFR.

Do you have any links to read :)
