Hi Guys. i have had the car lowered on 'spax' springs and i think the car looks great (around 40mm lower) but the ride is too harsh. would it soften the ride if i had 205/50/16 tyres fitted instead of the usual 205/45/16's? if anyone has these on their standard VRS wheels would you kindly put up a picture so i can see what they look like too?

thanks in advance for replies / pics...

No because they are the wrong size and knock your speedo out

Matt

What matt said, only thing to do is get new suspension OR pillow on your seat.

it will improve the ride ever so slightly but so much that your going to notice it I'm not so sure lol

Little brother has gone from 205/40x17s to 205/45x17s on his Ibiza and it makes enough of a difference he's continuing with them. My car (normal VRS tyre size) reads around 64MPH when doing a GPS verified 60mph and around 32-33MPH when doing 30MPM.

I think you could do it and the car would still be legal but it might be worth checking with your insurance company first. In theory they shouldn't really be bothered, but even so, it's worth getting them to put a note on file.

I had spax springs on mine for about a year and the ride was terrible.

Uprated shocks would be the only way to improve the ride to make bearable

I've been running 205/50/16's on stock rims for about two years now.

The speedo is actually more accurate than stock, as it reads well under what you're actually doing out of the factory. GPS verified, a displayed 30 is now 29ish, and 70 is 68ish. 3.38% difference in overall diameter from 45's to 50's.

Massive difference to the handling, the car feels a lot more 'grown up', and much less crashy on the potholes and other nasties on our fantastic ( ) roads around Bristol. I for one will not return to a 45 profile.

Insurance company were not bothered in the slightest.

I had SPAX in my old Mk2 Ibiza and I'll never have them again.

Much to harsh, but did help the handling no end.

i agree that they're harsh and i suppose that i Shoulda spent a little more on springs and gone for the eibachs but hindsight is a wonderful thing. I've seen some coilies somewhere for around 200 notes though... Hmmm...

Then we look forward to you posting once you've realised they're even harsher than the Spax !!!

Just go for Eibachs, job done.

with £200 coilovers you gotta remember its £50 a corner. i wudnt risk it myself lol

I've got Jom coilovers, had them for six Months now no problems, they are excellent for the money, and with a years guarantee that's a big bonus

I'll second this been running on 50's for over a year now and far better ride quality and according to the gps 69mph at an indicated 70 on the clock
