Replacement Key Cost?

Featured Replies

Hi there does anyone know how much a replacement Octavia VRS key would be?

Think the last one I saw quoted was in the region of £120, for the key, cutting and coding.

Have you misplaced the spare or something?

There is also the DIY option, for which eBay can yield some items. You could get a new key unit with a blank blade and get that setup and the blade cut. You would have the issue of getting the immobiliser transponder coded and talking to your car though.

As Wardy said above i have known people quoted £160 from a dealer (Skoda and VW's).

Or you can do it the eBay way with a new remote & key blade then a new transponder from Hickleys.com, you will however need someone with VAG Commander to read your SKC (Secret Key Code) and then it can all be coded via VCDS, this way is more hassle, BUT it is possible to do the whole lot for £50 ish.

It was the new transponder part I was struggling with, so that's good there's a source emoticon-0148-yes.gif

As said, if you already have the SKC then that's one step removed. That should be on a plastic fob. Maybe a bit like....

Thanks for replies guys very useful. I'll test water with dealer first.

Yes the missus has misplaced the main key, I have the spare which is remote locking etc but not sure if I have the SKC, I'll check all docs I have.

If you've had the car from new, it will have been provided. It's usually attached to the spare key as a plastic fob with a barcode and other info on it.

Often though, on 2nd hand sales, they can be mislaid by previous owners. A dealer will be able to access it for you though; it's a 4-digit code.

Thanks Wardy, not had it from new unfortunately :(.. Going to have one last mega hunt for it but if no luck it'll be a trip to the dealer most likely. I'll report back for cost as it may be of future use for someone. local dealer is dm Keith Leeds

Cheers

Skoda haven't supplied the SKC with the car for a good few years now emoticon-0106-crying.gif

The second key for the car I bought yesterday does not fit the car! I think the non=franchise garage has given me the wrong key, my wife tested it but though the battery was dead, neither of us put it in the ignition to check! Anyway, called the garage which used to maintain this car (a Skoda dealer) and got a quote for a new one.

I can beat all the other quotes on this thread so far,

wait for it...

.... £175! That wasn't a typo!

This is obviously one way to make money back from great value cars!!

Some Credit Card protection insurances cover replacement car keys too to the value of £180. Ours does.

Worth checking.

Handy to know. Glad i've got the long plastic barcoded key fob on my spare then if they've stopped giving it with new cars! :sun:
