Very strange but very annoying problem help!

Featured Replies

Hello all need some help please as I'm getting peed off with this problem I'm having.

The problem I'm having is that my car all of a sudden feels slugish and when I stop at lights you can feel the car juddering, further down the road when I come to a stop again it will cut out. The car also sounds different when all this is happening, the exhaust sounds very deep and if you give the pedal a quick blip it sounds like it has a miss fire but actually doesn't. I was stood at the back earlier and the exhaust sounded deep again and all of a sudden it sounded like something had switched off or shut and the car went quiet and back to normal again..

Could this sound like an EGR sticking? It's the only thing I can think of.

Thanks

It could be mate but the best thing to do is get it read for fault codes.

Exhaust note deepening is a symptom of DPF misbehaving, as is sluggishness/loss of power and engine cutting out-I've had it on my previous PD VRS. Get the soot level in the DPF checked as well as checking fault codes with VCDS.

The soot levels have been checked as I went out on road test with vag com doing a regen and its down to between 0 & 4%

I thought my dpf had packed in at weekend but turned out to be dodgy exhaust pressure sensor so had it changed and had the car regen'd

I can't claim to know everything about the DPF system, but I did have the exhaust pressure sensor replaced on my PD VRS & the problem continued. I'm pretty certain the two are closely linked.

All I can say is my car had exactly the same symptoms as you describe on an ongoing basis until the DPF was removed.

Great, the one thing I was hoping it wasn't going to be. Far too much money to spend!

Don't take my word for it,obviously-get it checked out. DPF removal & remap would sort it cheaper than a new DPF I should think!

Yeah I priced it up from shark think it was about £660 so its cheaper than new DPF and won't have a problem with it again. Something I have been thinking IF the DPF does pack in

Is this legal in the UK to remove the DPF?

From what i know at the moment the dpf is not a legal requirement and is not needed for an MOT pass, but it may well become a legal requirement in future, rumor is the law maybe changed for the MOT test etc.

The cost of having a replacement fitted+problems that some drivers are having, you can't blame people for having it removed.I shall do the same depending on how much longer i have the car. ;)

I had a similar issue with my 2.0tfsi and it was the intercooler. It has failed where the plastic sides meet the aluminium core.

Robert, did it cause any fault codes? Mines not bringing anything up this is why I'm confused

Yes. It brought up a few. Plus it sounded a bit like an impreza. Hope you get it sorted.
