Two child seats and adult in back?

Featured Replies

Out of interest, would an adult be comfortable in the centre back seat of a Superb if there were two child seats either side? For say an hour long journey at most?

This doesn't appear to be the case in an Octavia, I couldn't sit and I'm thin, and certainly not so in my Fabia.

Ta for any thoughts.

Not at all!

Got to be very skinny if its going to be near comfortable.

I have two car seats, ones an isofix so quite big and ones for our 4 year old, you wouldn't want to sit in the middle for long unless your very slender, which I'm not.

Very unlikely. For such a big car, it's disappointingly narrow across the rear seats. Even with just one infant seat, two small addults in the back is a very uncomfortable squeeze. In fact, it borders on dangerous, as the seat belt release would be extremely difficult to access following an accident.

The centre 'seat' position in the back is also very uncomfortable to spend any length of time in/on. It's narrow and very firm. As with most cars, the rear seats aren't really designed for 3 occupants, and straddling a fairly large transmission tunnel is not the most comfortable position for even a short journey. The only saving grace is the sheer amount of rear leg room provides an opportunity for a small element of comfort you would not get in another car.

I wouldn't want to sit there squezzed between 2 child seats.

The Superb is deceptively narrow in the rear compartment. I say deceptively because it has so much leg room that people tend to focus on that and ignore the width. I had the same issue with child seats when I switched from my previous car (Volvo XC70) which would comfortably accomodate an adult in the back sat between two child seats. The Superb won't. The trade off is though that the Volvo was uncomfortably wide for std size parking spaces (by which I mean I was always concerned about others banging doors into it or leaving insufficient room to get back in) whereas with the Superb being slimmer, I'm less concerned.

The child seat issue is improved now as our eldest uses a booster cushion which takes up less space, so a third person can sit in the back.

The Superb is no wider than an Octavia, its just a lot longer. Having tried to get 2 child seats and an adult in mine, I can safely say it cannot be done.

All I can say is speaking from experience, with 1 Britax Isofix seat and 1 Maxi Cosi Axis seat fitted in the back each containing a grand daughter, my daughter sat in the middle of the back and managed to easily fall asleep on a journey of 50 odd miles on the way back from a shopping trip to Ikea!

It was either the comfort of the car, or the shopping trip that helped her nod off! Both children were also in the land of nod!

In summary, yes there is room for an adult between the seats, just not a biggie!

I agree. My wife sat between my two kids (3 months & 3 years, both rear-facing seats) for 2 hrs. She won´t make a habbit of it, but it was doable and no complaints.

I know this is an old post, but in case anyone is looking.... We have 2 Britax KIDfix seats (high back rigid boosters) in the back and I can only just squeeze myself in the middle, and it is not comfortable and I wouldnt do it for longer than 20 mins. I am 5'10" and 65kg. Anyone bigger would need a shoehorn and have to hold their arms above their head like an Orangutan. ;o)

Both my kids are in isofix seats and I cant fit in the middle. Our other car is a VW touran which we have no problem sitting in the middle. In fact it us quite comfortable.
