Touch Up Paint - Should I Sand Down Before Lacquering

Featured Replies

Hello,

My Octy Mk2 in Briliant Silver has acquired a scratch about 3 inches long on the front bumper below the headlight. This went right down to the black plastic and, at one end, scraped the paint a couple of millimetres each side.

I have done a repair using Skoda touch-up paint. I have had some experience of this thing so used a heady combination of cocktail sticks, wooden kebab skewers and - oh yes - a paintbrush.

The result is surprisingly good, and, whilst not perfect, you would need to go looking for it to find the problem.

The paint covering is not perfectly smooth so I'm inclinded to give it a light rub using P2000 wet and dry paper before applying the lacquer. But should I do this? Will it turn the finish flat and ruin my efforts, or will the lacquer then bring it up again? I don't want to ruin a 90% effective fix in at attempt to turn it into a 95% one, if you see what I mean ...

Thanks for any advice.

I done this on my bumper and sprayed it with lacquer and it seemed ok to me. Lacquer filled it in and bought it back.

It's not in the light so I don't know if it is hiding anything but I can't notice it.
