06 vrs - usually quite noisy (whining)?

Featured Replies

Hi,

I have recently purchased an 06 octavia vrs (petrol). Its done around 60k and everything seems well except there is a whining (best way to try and describe it) that seems to get louder with speed. I can't quite figure out whether its from the front or back, just sounds like it's from the car in general (amplified by the inside of the car). It sounds similar to a dodgy wheel bearing but at the same time sounds different.

I have read that there is general tyre noise associated with octavias and also a few people have had whining diffs, is this a normal trait of an octavia vrs or something I should be worried about? Performance is not affected, its just noisy, Which can be drowned out by having the stereo on at average volume.

Any thoughts would be welcome.

Thanks in advance!

check (look closely) the inside edge of the rear tyres, its almost certainly uneven wear

Hi,

Thanks for your response. That's what I suspected, but noticed this morning whilst crawling in 2nd in traffic, the noise was there and the noise 'stuttered' as I let foot off accelerator then back on it (as the revs dropped), leading me to think it is a mechanical noise as there was no chane in speed but definately a change in noise (which in my mind wouldn't happen if it was just Tyres).

(maybe it's just me being paranoid with it being a new car to me)

Thanks

Will
