I had my turbo charger blown up the other week and I am looking for a replacement. I would rather go for a reconditioned one,since new ones costs an eye, and I would appreciate if anyone had experienced a similar problem could advise on this matter.

My turbo went a few months back. I had a good look around and basically i found the best option to be Turbo Technics. Their re-con unit comes with a 2 year warranty and was priced in-line with others. They are based in Northampton and can do fitting which seemed like a good option as it gives total piece of mind but they were too far away for me. The alterntive is that they next day deliver it to a local garage and then send the courier back a few days later to pick up the old one. The turbo for the 2.0 TDI BKD engine was £510 inc VAT to give some idea of cost, no doubt your one will be a little different as you have the 1.9

Overall they were very good.

I second Turbo Technics, fitted by a friend / local mechanic in Portsmouth into my now sold Audi A3 2.0 TDI.

Dunno if it's any help, but TPS (VW's trade outlet) supply reconditioned OEM units on service-exchange for around £750 ...

Another recommendation for Turbo Technics here too.

I've also used Turbo Dynamics in the past.

Our local Skoda dealer uses the Turbo Centre. I used them too. Very good and efficient too.

Turbo Technics here too. 2 year warranty and they say that they slightly modify the vanes so they don't stick as easily. Its in about 150,000kms and still going strong. Knock on wood !!

I have delt with a company called vage, they do all kind of recon parts for cars, turbos, gear box, engines plus other stuff. i dont remember what the warranty is on the turbos but i do remember that the warranty is for the whole of europe, so if you break down due to there part they send a recovery to get you to garage to get it fixed. this may not be the case now as it has been a few years.

Another shout for turbo technics, price includes next day delivery and return of old unit back to them. Warranty was a definite bonus too.
