trying to sort a car for me dad

Featured Replies

please help (again)

had call earlier from my parents saying they are wanting to change there 4 year old V50 T5 estate

they dont really need the speed so a VRS is really out of the window (which is good as well cause you really cant have the same car as your parents can you) so looking at the deals would a 1.8T with DSG be a good bet

they only do abou 4k a year and most of them are up and down the M5 to come and see us ...

any comments would be welcomed ....

In your original post you said you wanted DSG - only the diesel scout is available with DSG.

Can't help on the Scout but the 1.8TSI engine is an absolute gem! Coupled to the 7 speed DSG it is even better but that combination is only available on Elegance and L&K I think

i just been checking prices/spec etc the scout 1.8 tax is £300, can i confirm thats right ... seems high

maybe i should stick with the orignal and like mentioned a 1.8t dsg eleg. est

Get a normal octy and consider winter tyres although it will probably be better than their current car anyway.

Why don't they like Yeti? :'(

The only reason that I can think of is a 4 - 6 month waiting list if you want a new one. ;)

Honestly; a Yeti is just as, if not more than, practical as an Octavia.. Easier to get into with higher driving position. Every bit as much fun to drive than an Octavia (the CR170 is an absolute hoot :giggle: ); even us older folks are allowed to have fun sometimes.

They even do a 1.8TSI version. I'd suggest an Elegance, similar spec to an L&K Octavia.

Seriously; take them to a dealer and get them out on a test drive.

the looks aren't for everyone. They are also quite a bit bigger. My dad wanted one but my mum didn't like the look of it and she said it was too big!

Optical illusion?

Its actually shorter than an Octavia and with the square rump is easier to manoeuvre & reverse. Curiously its only 5mm longer than a Roomster.

Accepted that it is taller and slightly wider (more shoulder room inside).

Looks are somewhat of the Marmite variety; love or hate.

Try telling that to someone older and wiser than you!

Would you like me to speak to them on your behalf? ;):giggle:

I'm old enough to draw a pension if that counts (albeit still working for a crust). :S

:giggle: HA! You can't talk to them! They wouldn't even check in online when they went to Canada the other week even though my Mum is always on the internet and buys stuff etc....then moaned they weren't sitting together on the plane!

He bought a Golf GT Sport 1.4TSI 140 instead ;)

Fair enough; each to his own. Probably very happy with the Golf. ;)
