Castrol SLX Longtec II in 1.9TDI100PD?

Featured Replies

In instruction manual Skoda Fabia 1.9 TDI (100bhp PD, june 2001, remapped to 130bhp, about 90000miles on the clock) I'm being notififed/warned that I should use oil with the VW505.01 "stamp".

So yesterday my car had a small service at the local Skoda (!) dealer who did an oil-refresh.

Looking at the bill and after some Googling I'm now puzzled what they did put in the car and if I should go back and get it changed, or if I can drive along without issues:

The bill sais:

Castrol SLX Longtec II OW30

After some Googling I found out that this oil doesn't exist but there are two possibilities:

Castrol SLX Longtec 0W30 (VW 502.00, 505.00, 503 01)

Castrol SLX Longlife II 0W30 (VW 503.00/506.00/506.01)

Whichever it is, it does not meet VW505.01

What should I do about it?

It says on your bill Longtec 11 which meets VW506.01.

This is a higher spec oil than VW505.01 and is used in Skoda's on variable servicing and is good for upto 30000miles.

Your car will be fine.

It's Castrol SLX Longlife II which meets 506 01 - not Castrol SLX Longtec II. I would ask for the oil to be changed agian for a 505 01 oil (PD on fixed servicing) or 506 01 (PD on variable). I aree with what Lee says about 506 01 rather than 505 01. Just make sure that one or the other is used.

Your right about the spec of oil - I use 505.1 PD spec for my Ibiza on Fixed servicing (No variable on Ibiza). Therefore they should have used this spec if you're on Fixed. I thought that this longlife oil was more expensive as well  The amount of different stories we hear of oil specifications and garage's interpretations just boggles me.

Sorry,

Not really typed what I meant.:)

Your bill says Longtec 11 but as long as they used Longlife 11 you'll be fine.

Better ask them.

506.01 is meant to be fine... thats what I topped up my vRS with and I have been told by a few people now with good authority that the 506.01 is fine and that some of the dealers are in fact using it instead. Its higher quality than 505.01.

On a Dutch TDI forum (http://www.tdiclub.nl) there's an "oil-expert" who sais that the VW505.01 is the "toughest" oil there is and if it is stated that a car should use that oil.. it should use that specific oil, not VW506.01 as there will be higher wear of certain parts.
