Help! Newbie with fault!

Featured Replies

Hi people,

I am a Newbie who has owned a 2nd hand Skoda Octavia FSI 2.0 05 plate for about a month.

The issue I have is when I am going at a half decent speed (80-85) for a while and need to slow down I take foot off acc and start putting my foot on the brake. At this point the car goes into its safe mode with the EPC, engine and traction control lights all on. I have to restart the engine to get it working again out of safe mode.

Does anyone have any ideas what this could be? Its driving me mad and my garage has had several looks with no luck.

Cheers in Advance,

Tarbun

I would say you need to get it hooked up to VCDS (vag-com) and have the fault codes read.

First thing I would do is check if the brake lights work. I know the on my old Fabia vRS when the brake light switch developed a fault the glow plug light would start flashing. As yours is a petrol it won't have that light, but as the brake light switch is linked into the engine ECU and you say the fault occurs when you put your foot on the brake that would be the first place I'd look.
