central locking type?

Featured Replies

Hi

I have keyed central locking on my 2001 fabia comfort estate 1.4 at the minute and have just bought a keyless entry kit. The problem is that there are several wiring diagrams and I am not sure which to follow. There is positive trigger, negative trigger, pneumatic and 2 types of electric motor listed. I have no idea which is my system and would be grateful of any advice you can offer.

Thanks for the advice. I do have a boot release lever by the seat. Does this mean the guide in the link is different?? I know little about electrics and worry about wiring it in and if it doesn't work struggling to know how to rectify it.

If yours came as standard with central locking (a comfort model probably did) then the guide should be accurate.

I wouldn't imagine an auto-electrician/alarm installer would charge much more than the kit cost you - although many may refuse to install something they don't supply. Should only take them half an hour.

Well, today was the day!! From start to finish it took less than 2 hours and now i have remote locking, with flashing indicators and windows that close when the car is locked :) The only problem i had with the guide was that pins 10 and 12 were not the indicators. there were the same coloured wires (but thicker) in the same connector that did the trick though. It was a simple job and all in all has cost me £26.00!! Worth every penny :)

I now need to get a key cut. Does anyone know if the original key contains an immobiliser chip?? I have only just thought of this!!

Thanks for the advice and the link to the awesome step by step guide.

Yes there is an immobiliser chip in the key. You need someone who knows how to use VAG-COM (or VCDS as it is now known) to pair the key with the immobiliser integrated in the dash panel. Never tried it myself.

I'm sure there used to be someone on ebay who would cut you a blade to your key if you sent a clear photo, but can't find any more. Probably against ebay T&C's or something.

I can recommend this guy on ebay for key blanks from a photo. His user name is 2277malcolm and he can make you a key or a blank for a flip-fob.

All Fabias have an immobiliser chip in the key and I belive they are all of the glass capsule type. They're fragile - as others have commented - but transferrable to a new flip-fob with a scalpel and a bit of care. If you fancy a bit more wiring, rcclick.co.uk sell a transponder bypass kit http://www.rclick.co.uk/product_info.php?products_id=928 enabling you to have a transponder key permanently hooked up to the car immobiliser. Then you only need the correct key blank to start your car.

But don't tell your insurance company!
