Best way to remove crappy OEM Clips?

Featured Replies

I am trying to replace one of my hoses that runs under the inlet manifold as its split. I have got one of the silicone ones from ebay i am wanting to fit this just now untill i gather up the bits needed fit a oil catch can as funds are a bit low just now.

What is the best way to get the crappy oem clips off that join the hoses together? I don't want to cause any more damage to any other hoses etc. I have some new shiney jubilee clips to go back on i am just strugleing to get the crappy orginal ones off plus its quite tight for room.

Any pointers or advice would be great as i am starting to loose the head with them lol.

Don't the tabs just squeeze together?

I tryed that, couldn't fit the pliars in properly to try and squezze them but ill have another go see if they will come off.

I've always used "water pump" pliers to compress the the "ears" of the spring type clamps to remove them without any difficulty. Any DIY outlet will have these pliers in stock. These spring type clamps are "kinder" to the hoses than the popular worm driven clamps as these dig in to the hose underneath the worm screw. If you examine the hose you will know what I mean. It's difficult to know how much to tighten the worm screw type. Too loose and they leak ,too tight and they can damage the hose.

You ideally need something like this:

Hose clip tool

I usually use a small screwdriver to prise up the end then a bigger one to pop it off.

+1. Not always kind to the hose depending how careful you are, but since the only reason for removing my clips was to replace the hose then i didn't mind too much.

why has no one considered dynamite?

Yes there are other methods but having done a few and lost bits of knuckle, dynamite gets my vote :D

Please can you demonstrate the dynamite method ?

A guide with photos would surely get made into one of those sticky threads

ps

I want to see that LPG tank go pop ! B)

If I was any good with photoshop I would post pics, but alas :D

I hate those clips though :D
