Knocking sound from left front

Featured Replies

Hi guys

Love my Fabia its been ace to me for a year but the other day I started hearing a worrying knocking sound from the left front. I'll try to be brief with my description. The knock sounds like when I had a mk3 gti and the exhaust bracket came loose making the exhaust move under load.

The noise happens either when I am hard on the brakes or get hard on the throttle or when I'm slowing down to about 10mph, on the brakes and go over a bump.

Sounds suspension related to me so wondering what the most common issues are with Fabias, been looking around and it seems there could be a lot of explenations for knocking sounds :S Also under brakes the car pulls slightly to the right and there is a slight sqeek when on the brakes but this happens rarely. Just thinking they all could be related.

Any help would be great as I dont want to take it to a garage where they have no clue what they are talking about. If any Fabia owners in manchester know of a good garage that has good fabia knowledge that you could recommend that would be ace! :)

Thanks a lot for reading this

Could be the drop link, £25 from TPS

Gsf £15

On mine the spring broke and made all sorts of noises before the parts that broke off finally fell off and the noises stopped... and that was 7 months ago. Visually look at the spring and check it's ok. Don't ignore it either, I did and it doesn't end well.

Thanks for all the replys guy's I'll have a look into those. I'll prob jack it up tomorrow and see if I can find anything obviously wrong. If its a £15 part then that'll be a bonus tbh its not normally like that with cars :)

I have EXACTLY everything you have lol pretty certain its not drop links as I had new ones fitted a while back, it's either console bush or arb bush, I think someone said if it happens under braking it's the console but cant remember 100%

i had a really bad knocking sound from n/s/f area. sounded as if wheel was going to come off. it was the inner pad sticking on the n/s/f in the end.

Guess that would make sense as it is mostly when I'm on the brakes, how did you fix that ste? Also would that make it go to the right slightly underbraking?

Driving it at the weekend it feels like there is a bit of play in the steering which makes me think something has come loose somehwere :S

If your confident enough strip down the brakes and give the caliper carrier a good clean. Also the sliders should be cleaned aswell, pads should slide into the carrier without any resistance. If its the same clink as I had, it will speed up and slowdown with the rotation of the wheel

It only really at 10pmh or less that the thud is bad to be honest, then you can feel it if u get on the brakes hard coming up to a junction for example. That plus it veering to the right under brakes makes me think something is loose.

I've got it going to a garage tomorrow for them to have a look at and hopefully they'll mention the same as you guys on here and not try and pull the wool over my eyes

Cheers

If it is clunking under low speed accel and brake then my money is on it being a ball-joint.

Cheap and simple to replace.

Any knock from the front would normally be either - ARB bushes, Console bushes, drop-links or ball-joint. Any good garage should be able to tell in a couple of minutes when it is up on the ramp.

Andy.

Any ideas on how to locate the ball joint and arb bushes as mine is also making this noise and the drop links and console bushes are new so it has to be one of these I think.

Cheers,

Dean

I'm getting console and arb bushes fitted soon so hoping that sorts mine, if not knowing my luck I'll have to try again

My low speed clonking ended up being the engine mount. £260 later :'(
