Breakdown Cover

Featured Replies

I am sure this has cropped up before..? & apologies as it is UK specific but can anyone recommend who they feel provides the best breakdown cover please..?

I'm with Britannia Rescue through the CSMA.

They have come top in several of the WHICH tests in the last few years.

I wouldn't rejoin the AA again after one of their patrol cretins almost had my car on fire after not bothering to clip in a cable properly in the engine bay, and it touched the manifold. Melted cable housing, lots of black smoke and yet another clutch cable! Britannia use local garages/recovery firms who have a 'franchise', just like Green Flag

Buy the mazda you'll get 3 years cover

Used green flag for a couple of years. Only needed it for a flat battery which is very easily fixed so no complaints

I was in the AA for nearly 20 years consecutively, with only one callout in this time. At my last renewal they wanted £105, I e-mailed them asking if they could match their new members introductory offer of £79.99 and didn't get a reply. I ended up cancelling my direct debit, letting my membership lapse for a day and rejoining as a new member. At the time Quidco were doing a deal of £42 cash back on AA policies over £75. After Quidco had taken their £5, I ended up with exactly the same level of cover for £43 instead of £105.

A quick look at the AA site and Quidco, by my calculations you can get personal cover, home start, breakdown, recovery for £105. Quidco have an offer of £60 cash back on AA policies over £100 (expires in 15 hours), so you can get it for £50, as Quidco will take £5.

With all organisations, you'll get people who are good or indifferent at their job, hopefully you'll never have to find out.

I have it through my bank, they contract it out to RAC. Had 3 call outs in 4 years for my Hyundai and BMW, all 3 times didnt question taking the car to main dealer over 50 miles away even though the policy stated that if there is not a dealer within 30 miles then the car will be taken to my house. Didnt ask for extra payment or anything !!

Having used Skoda Assist before, I found the AA cover on my Mk1 better than the RAC on the mk2.

It is for SWMBO's motor, she has had it covered for a few years via her insurance but we feel it is time for a change.
