Interest in Fabia vRS

Featured Replies

Hey everyone,

I'm Stu, 26, living in not so sunny Norfolk. I'm quite interested in trading in my Astra for a new Fabia vRS soon but I wanted to ask a few questions about it;

1) Is the Amundsen sat nav any good?

2) What's the best MPG you peeps have had out of it?

3) Can the 1.4TSi be remapped, if so, what to?

I'm sure I'll have a few more questions in time but thats all for now.

Thanks in advance.

Hi Stu, Welcome to Briskoda!

A lot of the questions have been answered previously but here are my responses:

1, I've heard mixed stories but can't confirm as I didn't get the option

2, on a run I can get about 40-45 mpg

3, yes, approx 210bhp reported but best speaking to Janner_Sy ;)

1) Is the Amundsen sat nav any good?

Integrates very nicely, especially if you have the Maxidot (ooo sore subject!)

It's a very good sat nav though, it recaluclates a route literally INSTANTLY, quicker than any other Sat Nav i've ever seen! Never ever had it 'finding GPS' its always on. The system does have some funny one liners for example.

If you join a motorway and need to continue down the road for say 30 miles... instead of 'Continue on this road for 30 miles' it will just say 'Continue on this road for a while' but obviously when your near the junction it will say 'Please keep left in 600 yards'... 'Please exit at the next junction' etc etc.

The POI is brill, you can type in things like 'Starbucks' or 'Greggs' or 'Halfords' or even just 'Restaurant' and it will search for them and bring up a list in order of whats closest. If you hit details it will give you the full address with telephone number, let you store the address or navigate to it. Also when your driving around it will show little petrol station icons on the screen too so you know your near one.

At night it automatically dims the screen (you can turn this off) so it doesnt glare in the car at night and it shows up Speed sign posts for each road your on which is handy.

Overall very impressed and it's extremely useful if your a bit erm... thick with directions like me! It's so nice to be able to jump in the car and pop a postcode in etc.

Also improves the look of things like the radio etc.

Oh and one final thing I forgot, if theres traffic the sat nav will say 'Warning, traffic on your route' and load up the traffic information. We had a bad fire in the tunnels where i live in South Wales and it popped up on the screen showing where the accident was and how long the tail back was too! Didn't even have a route programmed in, was listening to the radio and suddenly the car started talking to me!

I can only comment about the Amundsen and would agree with everything adamc260 has said. It is much better than my TomTom Go 720 because it has 7 digit postcode capability which I have found to be pretty accurate on the Amundsen. It is certainly worth the cost (£500?). The only things I miss are the readout of current speed and the ability to buy speed camera locations. It integarates well with the display and looks good. Buy it. You will not regret it.

Does the VRS come with Maxidot at standard? If not, when ordering the Sat nav make sure the Maxidot is listed SEPERATELY on the order sheet... The brochure may say it includes the maxidot but from my own personal experience It did not.

Hello,

I will give you my experience where I can...

1) Is the Amundsen sat nav any good? - no idea, but not heard it's that good compared to the Columbus.

2) What's the best MPG you peeps have had out of it? - 37-42n absolute best (working it out manually - not relying on the trip computer)

3) Can the 1.4TSi be remapped, if so, what to? - no idea.

Regards
