Thinking of cancelling new vrs order

Featured Replies

Hi all

i was very excited about ordering my new fabia vrs at the start of July but circumstances have changed and i need to buy a car asap.

With the wait times im seeing on the forum and no build date confirmed i will be lucky to see my vrs before Christmas.

im now thinking of cancelling the new vrs order and buying a Mk1 VRS privately instead.

luckily i only gave £200 deposit by credit card so if they do kick up a fuss its not mega mega money that i will be losing but would obviously like to get it back.

Il pop into my dealer today and speak to the manager but do i need to take a letter with me confirming cancellation? if so what do i need to put in the letter? never done this before!

any advise and help much appreciated

I would imagine since it's not even been built or anything cancelling shouldn't be a problem.

ive read here that your supposed to put it in writing and give them some notice, supposedly to be given a chance to deliver. as we know they cant then if their an honest bunch they should give you back your deposit providing they havent incurred any costs (which they'd have to prove)

My advice would be to be patient, I ordered my vrs at start of may not to expect it until November, then start on Julygot a phone call saying it's been built and be ready for collection at the start of august, due to wanting 61 plate I'm waiting till 1st september

but rob, thats ok if you dont need a car right away. i ordered march yet here i am without one. its a lottery and only worth playing if you have the time

I was told that if it turns up before September that I can't wait or refuse it just cos it won't be a 61 reg. Were they having me on?

you can pick your car up when you want , we waited a month last year to get a 60 plate, we just handed the trade in when they got the car in, worth 250 more on a later plate

Yes they were having you on, my dealer rang me and asked if I wanted it at the start of august or later, once the dealer has received the car they have to register it within 10days, so I presume my car is currently sat at a docks somewhere until the next few weeks, I must say the dealer iv bought mine off are excellent. Also the reason iv waited for 4 weeks for 61 plate is simply my car will be new for 6 months rather than 4 weeks haha

didnt manage to get the dealer but went to see a few mk1 vrs's today, all sheds and asking silly money (not ones advertised on briskoda).

seems like if i want a decent one i need too pay £6-£7k, but paying this much for a 6 year old making me think il be better off with a new vrs.

arrrgghhh!!! decisions decisions

Can you sell your build slot on to someone else, with the waiting lists would expect you coukd cover your deposit. Long build times are killing sales for Skoda, was after a sub 100g car for my long commute and was set on.a greenline told no chance for six months by dealer. Ended up with a pre reg Mini One D, 2k below list and available next day! Would not have expected that a few years ago.

could not your dealer put you in a car till your car comes , for a fee, nothing special any part ex till yours arrives for a nominal sum each month, worth a try

Called my Skoda dealer yesterday, the sales guy who took my order isnt in for a few days so i requested cancellation through another sales guy who just called me back asking the reason, told him long delays and he said my sales guy will call back on Thursday to confirm everything.

more like try to keep my business :)

too late now,

ive put a deposit down on a mk1 vrs from a forum member, picking it up this week, thought it was a good move at this moment in time.

will update when i get confirmation my order is cancelled.

Just an update to this

Spoke to manager and told him I'd like to cancel the Vrs mk2 order due to long delays and I needed to buy a car ASAP as change in job position at work.

Was told instantly that there could be a £500 charge if skoda decide to charge them for cancelling.

My deposit is less then £500 so not sure what's going to happen there.

I also spoke skoda uk who opened s case file about the cancellation

There is nothing in the terms and conditions that were given to me when I ordered and signed the agreement that they can charge me £500 if I cancel. Order was only put in 6 weeks ago and not even had a sniff of an unconfirmed build date.

Had to send manager the reasons of cancellation in writing, then he would tell skoda, so just waiting now.

Will be gutted if they charged me £500 when others have been months And months into an order and have cancelled without getting charged.

Any advice?

If they have breached the terms of the contract then you are entitled to a full refund. Was there a firm delivery date shown on your order form? Have a look at the small print on the rear of the order form, I think it should say that if they haven't delivered by 30 days after the expected due date then you get your money back, simple as..

Why not try and locate a stock/dealer demo car. There appear to be plenty around now the cars been available for a while. I expect the dealer will do the VAT deal on a stock car too.

+1 quite a few around now in dealers with delivery milage or under 500 miles on them if you fancy doing a deal. Good luck.

If there is nothing about £500 cancellation in the T's&C's then tell them to do one and ask for your deposit back while you're at it.

the good news is they have decided to cancel the order without any penalty, this was after i contacted Skoda UK and spoke to a most helpful gent of the name John, who called the dealer manager too to give some pressure!

anyway as i now have a mk1 vrs i am not too far away!

thanks for all the advice.

Good result at the end of the day.
