emptying my catch can

Featured Replies

hi,

can someone please explain what i need to do to empty my Saikou Michi stage 3 catch can? i believe it has to be done regular but havent got a clue how to do it. :(

cheers

You need a container of equal or larger size than the catch can ( cut down an old plastic soft-drink bottle )

Place under the catchcan and unscrew the tap at the bottom

Leave to drain

ps

remember to screw up the tap afterwards :giggle:

cheers for the quick reply! ill give it a go. how often is it recommended i check it?

you need to empty it more often in Winter as it fills with condensation, during summer you won't get much in there TBH.

I just checked my records, I fitted mine in November last year and during the winter period emptied it every couple of months.

This year I drained it after doing a 1000 miles between April and May and only got literally a few drops out. It will depend a lot on your

type of year round journeys ie: short runs / stop start or long motorway treks

NB: I drain the OCC by using a small funnel attached to some clear plastic hose, I wedge the funnel below the OCC and have a

plastic tray under the car that the clear hose empties into. Try not to over tighten the draincock when closing it.

I fitted mine in autumn last year, checked it in feb and there wasn't anything in it. Was rather shocked. especially after how much **** my breather pipe chucked out when it split.

Something is wrong then! :( I empty mine once a week and get 20mls or more.

Its more than likely you have it in the open position permanently. remove the can and put it under some running water and working out which position is open/closed, on the mine its the opposite tread to normal.

I just have a cut-down a 500ml coke bottle, that I pop underneath and then just open the can and let it drain, once its finished I pour the muck into a large container, once that's full, i empty it at he tip (in a oil disposal center)

Easier way to find out would be just to touch the vavle. If it feels like it is oily/you have all on your finger then you know its open. Also look at the pipe work under it. see if theres any oil stains on it.
