Early octavia (98) 90bhp Non PD poss mods?

Featured Replies

Hi all, im new to the skoda scene and ive started with a 1998 S reg octavia TDI in red, 90bhp model which ive had the same engine in a mk4 golf, ive already ordered a tuning box, as from past experience i know these work and alot cheaper then the remap lol, im looking at other upgrades? interior/exterior/engine any form of upgrade that will make my car perform better, look better, and just be an all round better car, i will be looking at the obvious wheels/tints etc, but any advice will be taken into consideration thanks :)

You can upgrade the injectors and turbo on those. TDIclub is a good source of tuning info as the Yanks have a lot of 1.9 TDIs (pre PD) and many have tuned them quite hard.

Dont suppose you know if all the facelift parts are just a straight swap do ya?

Not that clued up on bodywork on octavia 1, but I would imagine all mark 1 octavia bits will fit on all mark 1 octavias. Could use vRS front bumper, but would need foglights, whole works.

IIRC headlights, grill and bonnet are a slightly different shape so not a straight swap.

A vRS bumper certainly won't "just fit" a pre-facelift car; the grill's a different width.

If and only if the inner wings and firewall are the same shape, you could fit a full set of facelift front wings, lights, bonnet, grill and bumper as a package.

IIRC the front isn't an easy swap, but you can put a front mounted intercooler, put the injectors from a 110TDI or even slightly larger in in place of the TDI90 injectors and a larger turbo too.

If you're thinking about that however, the first thing to do with any older TDi is to clean out the EGR system, intercooler and all of that pipework.

Also clean the inlet manifold.

A clean air filter as the service interval on those is far too long and you'll probably think it's performing a lot better for almost no money.

It might be worth dropping Stuart_J a message as I seem to remember him tuning one of these quite hard.

Thanks alot guys for the replys, i suppose i best get looking for a decent front end for an affordable price then, tbh my wings are a little tatty and i would ideally like to have car resprayed as i plan to keep it for aslong as it will run :) just having difficulty finding an affordable nice interior for it, and also just bought some audi a4 wheels and seems the PCD is 5x112 and the octavias are a 5x100 so im am not sure what to do, im sure ive read that there are adapters? Really do appreciate the help :)

Check ebay for wings there were a couple of new ones going really cheap a few days back

I only say i might sell up as one of the alloys needs a good refurb anyway lol, still balances but looks quite nasty

best mod u can do is run it on bio! after around 5 to 10k miles the processing kit will have paid for itself!

Lmaoo i just asked a local lad to giv me a price on interior and front bumper and wings n bonnet and he said 825quid :| i only give 550 for my car lol

Just fix the body up as it is.

As for the wheels just go and get some 5*100, the Octy Elegance had a quite nice set of 16" wheels.
