Side Lights in Headlight

Featured Replies

Hi folks

Some questions that perhaps you could answer.

My vrs and some other models, Monties Greenlines elegance etc, have blue light bulbs in the main headlight unit.

Now I know these do not work, they are not supposed to, but has anyone ever tried to make them work?

Secondly in the Montie, for example, the DRLS are incorporated into the bumper next the fog lights.

When the engine is started the DRLS light up but when the side light switch is activated do they dim like those in the vrs?

The vrs does not have fog lights, not an option, has anyone considered changing the bumper to say the bumper that the elegance has to have fog lights?

i was told there is a relay missing which stops them working

I think the blue lamp is the DRL for cars with no foglights. It can be activated using diagnostic software.

Even if the car has foglamps, they still install the bulb but it will not be wired up.

Small blue bulb in headlight on my Monte is the side light, drl's next to fog lights go off when side lights are on. Don't use side lights much as they are dimmer than drl lights, tend to go straight to main lights when it's getting dark.

The sidelight bulbs in the headlight DO work on all Fabia's except the vRS (including the Monte).

The only reason they don't work on the vRS is because the LED DRL's dim to perform the function of sidelights. As the headlight is the same as on other Fabia's it is easier for Skoda to keep the bulb in there. If it is anything like the Octavia vRS there is no wiring to the sidelight bulbs.

No. Other (non vRS) Fabia's that are equipped with (non LED) DRL's, including the Monte, have them located next to the fog lights. These DRL's do not dim. When sidelights or dipped headlights are turned on the DRL's go off and the sidelight bulbs in the headlight are turned on.

The reason the vRS does not have fog lights is because the DRL's use the same aperture on the bumper. They also look very smart. I'm not sure why you'd want to put a normal less sporty looking non vRS bumper on just to gain front fog lights? I can't remember the last time I had a need to use my front fog lights, I don't think they even improved visibility much either!

If you take the rubber cap off the lights on the vRS wires do come out of that bulb, which makes me think it can be turned on when you use the sidelights.

You'd then have:

Lights off: DRL's on Full

Sidelights: DRL's on Low & Spare headlight bulb

Main Beam: DRL'S on Low & Spare headlight bulb & Projector

Im sure someone would be up for getting it to work? be it Vagcom job or a bit of soldering!

Skoda dealers tell me it can't be done. Do not always believe what they say.

I am going to have a go but think it might require more than a little soldering.
