No sound after Columbus upgrade

Featured Replies

Apologies if this question was posted before but the search function isn't working in Tapatalk today.

I recently bought a used Columbus for my Octy II FL from eBay for DIY install. Almost everything works except that there is no sound! Found a buddy with VCDS and was tinkering with the various Speaker settings but couldn't solve the problem. The seller says he had coded on 6 speaker system while mine is the 12 speakers system. VCDS only shows 4 speakers maximum.

Is there an expert who can help? PS, also tried the DynaAudio option both off and on with no joy.

I think the issue will be the fact you have the speaker upgrade, with the digital sound processor. The Columbus obviously needs to be told about this, so the audio is routed correctly.

There will be the option under 56-Radio to code it for the type of audio setup the car has. For yours, I would imagine it's the 'Sound System' option.

Maybe also post some screenshots back of what you seen and we'll try and help further.

I'd agree with Wardy!! I've had a tinker with my Columbus recently, I noted for mine with the very basic of basics sound system the VCDS selection is 'No sound system installed', you need to try the various sound settings starting with 'Sound System' as previously advised, also you may have to boot the columbus after the change < > * i simultaneosly.

Good luck

Thanks Wardy and Pete for your quick response. We did try several options under Sound System with unit reset. Might have missed something so will try again, this time with screen shots :)

If in doubt, stick your old unit back in - then note the coding for that. Then swap back to the Columbus and go looking for the same options.

You should always note down what the coding was before any changes :)

Same problem on mine, wanted to replace the Audience to a Bolero, tried the Bolero, worked fine except that no Sound came out, mine's got a 12 speaker system installed as well, tried and tried with the VAS but to no avail ...

It's not VAS you want, try with VCDS....

What's VCDS ?.

Hi all,

I followed your advise and basically copied my Bolero's coding and applied it to the Columbus. Still no joy :(

DO NOT COPY CODING STRAIGHT OVER. Bad idea. As the Bolero could well have different areas that the coding's saved in. i.e. Byte 1, bit 1 (as an example) in Bolero could store a different setting on the Columbus.

What you need to do is look at the ticked options and configuration within long coding for the Bolero, then match those up with the Columbus.

That's what I did! Columbus do have more options then Bolero though, but in general, the sequence is the same.

No worries. Just as long as you didn't take the long coding string straight from the Bolero over to the Columbus.

Sorry to bring this old post back but did this ever get resolved?

I'm having this issue on mine right now :-(

You do have to do a reset on the unit after you change the coding, VCDS even reminds you to do one after changing the sound system type.

Found that out after a recent update to the firmware on my Columbus and the default after the upgrade was to set it to premium sound.

So I had to switch my one back the other way.

Paul.

Hi, all done now, I did a full reset ( < > and i ) every time but it made no odds.

In the end it all came alive when I unplugged ANC the reconnected the power amp under the passengers seat ;-)
