Have Skoda improved bushes?

Featured Replies

Hi all.

I need to replace the rear bushes on the front wishbone. I have read many posts on here about uprating to cupra bushes or poly ones and thought about doing it myself but dont want to bodge it up so rang around to get a quote to sort it.

I spoke to my local dealer to ask about bushes and he said that the VAG group were aware of the problem and have now improved them with a new design.

My question is has anyone had these 'new design' bushes fitted and if so whats the feedback.

Also I was quoted £120 inc VAT to supply and fit the 2 bushes. How does that sound?

Thanks.

That is very cheap!! I cannot say that we have ever seen a 'newer' design from the VAG market - Only ones have just seem to be either the Ibiza Cupra or Polly bushes.

Personally if it was me I would change any bushes with polly rather than rubbers ones, they just last so much longer.

Either way good luck with it!

I went with the new improved rubber bush design when mine were worn. I was concerned with some reports of noise/vibrations getting into the cabin at low speeds with the Cupra or polybushes. Unfounded or not, I didn't want to take the risk.

You can tell straight away when they've been done, as the front end feels a lot tighter. Too early to tell if they're going to last any longer though, and Skoda said the same thing, in that they were too new to come to a consensus on how well they last.

At the moment, I'm very happy with them. Might not be if they need replacing again even in the mid-term.

Seems a good price. Can't remember what I paid, but it was more than that I think.

I had an advisory at the recent service - bushes starting to crack - "we'll replace them with the improved ones".

I said "It's only done 29,000 miles!" - they said "it's nothing to do with mileage - it's because they're four years old". That's directly contradictory to what a different garage said when the ones on my 2004 vRS went - albeit at a similar age. They attributed the problem to Gloucestershire's poor roads and speed bumps!

They haven't quoted me yet but I switched to my present garage when they went previously and it was about £180 so £120 is cheap!

I'm pondering whether to keep the car to be honest - I swapped to a low mileage one to avoid this sort of thing...

New bushes are from the Octavia range and much improved. Smaller voids (and even they are part filled with rubber) and it's a 4 cross bush rather than the old 3 cross type.

I've just come from an Astra Mk4 and I took it from 20K to 150K with nothing other than tyres, brake pads and yearly self servicing (oil, filter, plugs etc), passed MOT every time with no advisories and not 1 breakdown. The Astra was the last in a long line of reliable family owned Vauxhalls. I only got rid of it because I thought something is bound to go wrong soon, so I went for a low mileage, well maintained and looked after Fabia, only to find a plethora of problems which hadn't been dealt with during the testing and manufacturing process. I have fixed some of the niggles (that shouldn't even be there IMO, such as leaking doors), but on my most recent MOT I passed with an advisory on the bushes. I can't believe it as I was under the impression that I was buying into amazing VAG quality and reliability. After the Fabia it's probably back to Vauxhall for my next vehicle to try my luck again...

The original bushes had two "webs" between the inner and outer parts of the bush....the latest ones are from the Octavia 4x4 and have 4 webs that hold the inner to the outer part.....these are known as X console bushes......if you want to do it yourself then the easy way to do it is to fit the PowerFlex two part bush...this can be fitted by hand into the console without having to remove the console from the car. Is there a link to any photos re this? I don't even know which bit of the suspension we're talking about but can wield a spanner or two...

Sorry - I meant photos of the component on the car showing where it is - and an indication of how easy or not it is to replace them...

Thanks - in one way exactly what I wanted - but in another way I'm not sure I should tackle it... :S

I put new style ones in last summer. Not too difficult. Used a long bolt to pull in and washing up liquid as a lubricant. Big tip is to have car high enough so you can get leverage and keep your knuckles.

New bushes were fitted Thursday and 4 new Kumho KU39's with tracking done on Friday.

Car feels much more sturdy and the ride qulity is so much smoother. £420 for the privilege though :'(

All was well but now that knocking noise has come back. I have been told that it could be the inner anti roll bar bush? Had a look online, is this also called a anti roll bar mount? Seen them on vwspares for only a couple of quid but they have lots of choice. Anyone know the part number for a vrs?
