Octavia 4x4 Elegance Estate ' Basic mods' thread

Featured Replies

Thought I'd collate all the info that you kind chaps at Briskoda have imparted this week and who knows it may prove useful for another member with an Octavia estate at some point and it means all of my enquiries are on one neat thread for people who have similar questions. So far, it looks like Unit 18 will be carrying out all this, with thanks.

Vehicle: Skoda Octavia MK1 Elegance, 4x4 Estate.

Areas for modification:

Ride height:

So far have been recommended Volkswagen V6 4MO Estate sports springs and dampers as these are higher than H&R 35mm,which is what I want: will update with parts no's and details.

Spacing.

Will update this as and when, or please feel free to PM me or add your 2p's worth. I think I will most likely go for 12mm on the back and 5mm front, probably H&R as I have used them in the past and found them to be v. good

Wheels.

Thinking of v.stealthy look, gun metal grey- have always liked the Audi RS4, as don't want to turn it into a VRS Replica and would like one area that is different. Probably going to opt for 18's.

Bumper (VRS)

Front bumper VRS Octavia direct replacement, grille inserts £40 approx, try to purchase with headlight washer holes, if not may try to DIY!

Roof spoiler (VRS)

Part No: 1U9 827 939 GRU

Tints

Recommendations please in the MK area. Quick, cheap and cheerful!!

Headunit: Like the look of a few, namely Sony CDX-MP5, CDX-GT5, CDX-GT6, Alpine IDA X311

Mods so far:

Aero wipers:

My post is Here

Headlight protectors

Philips Xtreme Vision H4 bulbs as usual, ( I've used these for as long as I can remember!)

Other notes: Winter tyres thread Here, Infinity on steels: Steels  Infinity tyres: :thumbdown:

Ride height:

If you're lower simply for cosmetics, the R32 stuff should sit the car at a good height, and shouldn't cost a huge amount.

You must remember to upgrade to the ARB's too - these are dangerously thin on the OE 4x4, allow stupid body roll that will put your car into a ditch, and not allow the 4x4 to get full traction.

The R32 ARB's are a cheap and huge improvement.

Whilst the R32 ARB's are too soft for a R32, the Octy 4x4 being roughly 60+Kg lighter at the front end suits them better.

If you want to get the best of the monocoque then KW v3 and thicker ARB's such as the stuff H&R, KW, etc do is the way to go. This stuff however, is probably more expensive than the car itself :o

No

Wheels.

imho the mk.4 R32 alloys ( genuine Ronal's, NOT reps ) are hard to beat, no just in terms of looks, but also in terms of practicality - they have very good internal clearance for fitting over bigger brakes, etc.

BRAKES

If you value your life, gets some decent brakes onto the car ASAP.

The 312x25mm front disk+caliper and 256x20mm vented rear disk+caliper setup as found on the vRS, Golf GTi, variuos other Golfs, Leon's, A3, etc, etc, is a worthy upgrade.

Fit decent pads - Ferodo

Seats.

The 'Elegance' seats are pants - but betters stuff from various VW Golf+Bora, Seat Leon+Toledo and Audi A3 are a direct fit.

The full leather type seats are expensive, but their are some good looking cloth recaro's with better bolsters, as well as leather/suede stuff too.

My Leather/suede fully electric memory function seats cost < £200 ( came from a Toledo )

vRS seats will fit, but have no side airbags, so not really a safe/good option for the 4x4 ( they reduce the car's 4 star ncap rating )

ps

If you really can't afford new seats, fit a CG-Lock so you can clamp yourself into the existing seats.

There is a stalled group-buy for them here, due to a supply problem

Steering wheel

There are several leather steering from across the VAG Golf mk.4 based range that are a direct fit.

imho the vRS steering wheel is the best of a boring bunch by a long way.

Wheels from later models also fit, as Paul-Greece has demonstrated
