Annoying rattle

Featured Replies

All,

I seem to have an annoying metallic like rattle like something is tapping when the engine is under load at low revs (It's a 1.8tsi). It appears to come from the passenger side, as if its behind the dash(?). Although I guess it could be in the engine bay. Anyone else had this and know the fix?

I know I can take it back to the dealer but if its a simple fix I'd rather do it myself than have to book in to the dealer etc.

Last couple of days of the European hols started to get a metallic buzzing from behind the dash :wonder: drivers side, while accelerating in low gears but only with the softbox fitted and a full load of luggage. Take that away and the noise goes away; bizarre :S

Not found the reason why as yet and quite a faff to replicate (if it will) to take to the local dealer.

The metallic trim round the intruments sometimes rattle/buzz on mine. Just finger pressure is usually enough to stop it.

I did have the instrument cluster creak but that went away after giving it a few shoves (Had exactly the same problem on my previous fabia and two octavias!). This rattle is one of those ones where to easily replicate you put it in a low gear and floor it. Checked under the bonnet, cant see anything loose. Tapped various things but no joy so far. Wonder if its wires or something behind the dash tapping the bulkhead.

Is it easy to see behind the dash? I removed the side panel but its not easy to see anything.

GiscoYeti - Cheers for the photo, I'll have a look. Although on mine it sounds like its the passenger side.

I seem to have the same problem, vibrations around 2300 RPM. I have some problem locating the tubes on the photo though. In what part of the engine bay are they?

Thanks for any help!
