breather pipe

Featured Replies

hi all just a quick question i just replaced my breather pipe due to the rubber one been completely split with a silicone and its working great and everything but its bugging me abit what does help with ? as i know its all connects to other pipes etc but for example does it help with the gearbox say getting oil to it etc ??

thanks all

p.s its the pipe that goes 2 to one

Nope. If it's the one on top of the engine, the infamous Y breather pipe, all it does it takes crankcase blowby and oil vapour and feeds it back into the engine intake to be burnt.

yea its the y breather pipe and ah kk just that for some stange reason my gearbox felt smoother i know otherthings like pulling away and the idleing seems alot better just that it had worked with the gearbox aswell but then took it for a better drive today and still feels notchy and altho i say it idles better it seems to feel abit lumpy.

thanks all

when the engine is running pressure is created inside engine and there needs to be a vent, but due to emmissions laws etc it cannot be vented directly to the air due to there been oil vapour in it,

So it is vented into the intake system on the engine and is then burn't by the engine as it runs, the oil vapour also helps to lubricated the lower part of the intake valves to reduce wear on them

also i think the vacuum created inside the crankcase help to improve engine power due to less resistance when the pistons are moving downwards
